Chapter 10 - The Heart of the House

The wedding took place in the vast gardens of the Lake Forest estate, under an arch woven with white roses and fairy lights. It was not a gathering of mob bosses or politicians. The guest list was small, consisting only of the people who truly mattered.

Dr. Aris, the surgeon who had saved Tyler, sat in the front row. The loyal security guards, who had fought alongside Dominic during the siege, stood at ease, smiling in their tailored suits.

Tyler walked Clara down the aisle. He wore a miniature tuxedo, standing tall and proud, his heart beating strong and steady beneath his shirt.

Clara looked breathtaking in a simple, flowing white gown. She carried a bouquet of lilies, but the most beautiful thing about her was the radiant, unbreakable smile on her face.

Waiting for her at the altar was Dominic. He looked handsome, powerful, and completely at peace. Standing beside him as the ring bearer was Noah, looking sharp in a little suit, holding a velvet pillow with utmost seriousness.

As Clara reached the altar, Tyler handed her hand to Dominic. “Take care of my sister, Mr. Vale,” Tyler said with a cheeky grin. “With my life, Tyler,” Dominic answered solemnly.

The ceremony was short and beautiful. They exchanged vows not just of love, but of survival, of building a future out of the ashes of their pasts.

When the minister asked for the rings, Noah stepped forward. He held the pillow up to his father.

Dominic took the ring with the two pearls and slid it onto Clara’s finger. Clara placed a solid gold band on Dominic’s.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the minister smiled. “You may kiss the bride.”

Dominic took Clara’s face in his hands and kissed her deeply, to the cheers and applause of their small, perfect family.

Later that evening, as the sun set and the garden was illuminated by golden string lights, Clara stood on the balcony of the master suite—no longer the forbidden North Wing, but a newly renovated room filled with warmth and life.

She looked out over the lawn. Tyler and Noah were chasing fireflies, their laughter carrying up on the gentle summer breeze.

Dominic came up behind her, wrapping a warm shawl over her shoulders and pulling her close. “What are you thinking about, Mrs. Vale?” he whispered against her ear.

Clara leaned her head back against his shoulder. She thought about the broke maid who had walked through the service door a year ago, terrified and desperate. She thought about the wild, silent child who had thrown a bronze horse. She thought about the dangerous man who had learned to love again.

“I’m thinking,” Clara smiled, looking down at the two boys playing on the grass, “that some broken things aren't meant to be thrown away. They just need the right person to piece them back together.”

Dominic kissed the top of her head, holding her tight against the cool night air. “And some people,” he said softly, “just need to hear the right lullaby.”

Down below, Noah caught a firefly. He ran over to show Tyler, his voice ringing out clear and joyful in the night. The mansion of white stone and mirrored windows no longer held its breath. It was finally breathing. It was finally home.
