Chapter 10 - The Boardroom Execution

Two weeks after the arrest on the tarmac, the morning sun shone brightly across the glass facade of Vance Logistics Headquarters.
The forty-story skyscraper in the center of the financial district had been Julian’s crown jewel, the monument to his ambition and pride.
Today, the thirty-second-floor executive boardroom was packed with anxious board members, majority shareholders, and corporate attorneys.
The company’s stock had plummeted forty-two percent following the national media firestorm surrounding Julian’s arrest.
Whispers of bankruptcy, executive fraud, and corporate liquidation buzzed around the long mahogany conference table.
At the head of the table sat Arthur Sterling, representing Julian’s remaining voting proxies, alongside three senior vice presidents who had spent years kissing Julian’s feet.
“Gentlemen, please settle down,” Sterling spoke, raising his hands with rehearsed confidence.
“Mr. Vance has temporarily delegated his operational authority through power of attorney.”
“We will stabilize the share price by announcing an interim executive committee and issuing a formal public separation from the criminal allegations.”
The heavy frosted glass double doors of the boardroom swung open with an authoritative thud.
Every single executive turned in their leather chairs.
Walking into the room, dressed in a sharp, tailored black Armani suit and walking with slow, elegant, measured steps, was me.
I held a sleek carbon-fiber walking cane in my right hand, using it lightly to support my core where the surgical wounds were still healing beneath my silk blouse.
My hair was styled into a sleek, severe chignon, my makeup flawless, and my dark eyes burning with calm, predatory power.
Behind me walked Detective Marcus Cruz, dressed in a sharp civilian suit, flanked by two forensic forensic auditors from the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Beside them was Eleanor Vance, Julian’s sixty-five-year-old mother, dressed in mourning black, her face pale and dignified.
The boardroom fell into stunned, breathless silence.
Arthur Sterling stood up so fast his leather executive chair rolled backward against the wall.
“Mrs. Vance…?” Sterling stammered, his polished arrogance evaporating in an instant.
“You… you should be in a medical rehabilitation facility.”
“This is an extraordinary executive session of the board of directors.”
“You have no standing to enter this room.”
I walked toward the head of the table, the rhythmic tap of my cane echoing across the polished hardwood floor like the ticking of an execution clock.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
I stopped directly in front of Sterling, looking him up and down with absolute cold disdain.
“Step away from my chair, Arthur,” I said, my voice carrying clear, resonant authority across the silent room.
“Your chair?” Sterling sneered, trying frantically to regain his composure.
“Julian Vance owns fifty-two percent of the voting shares of this company!”
“I hold his legal proxy!”
“You are merely his spouse, and under current corporate bylaws, you hold zero executive authority!”
I turned to the senior forensic auditor standing behind me, nodding slightly.
The auditor stepped forward, placing a thick, red-stamped federal document in front of Sterling and the board members.
“Pursuant to the Vance Family Irrevocable Trust Agreement established by the late Thomas Vance,” the auditor read aloud, “Section Twelve, Clause B explicitly states:”
“‘In the event that the designated trustee engages in gross moral turpitude, felony criminal conduct, or intentional bodily harm against any primary beneficiary, all voting shares and managerial authority shall instantly revert to the sole surviving lineal heir: Nora Vance.’”
Sterling’s hands began to shake as his eyes scanned the legal clauses on the parchment.
“This… this requires judicial certification!” Sterling sputtered.
“Certified two hours ago by the Chief Judge of the State Probate Division,” Detective Cruz stated calmly, flashing the stamped court order.
“Furthermore, Julian Vance’s fifty-two percent shareholding was officially frozen this morning under the Federal Asset Forfeiture Act as proceeds of corporate embezzlement and wire fraud.”
“Mr. Vance secretly transferred four point two million dollars of corporate operational funds into foreign shell accounts belonging to Selina Cole.”
“Every single executive who countersigned those transfers is currently being subpoenaed for corporate conspiracy.”
The three senior vice presidents seated at the table turned ghostly white, immediately looking down at their legal pads, terrified to make eye contact with me.
I placed my hands flat against the mahogany table, leaning forward slightly, staring directly into Arthur Sterling’s panicked eyes.
“You worked for my husband for ten years, Arthur,” I said softly, every word razor-sharp.
“You helped him draft fraudulent trust amendments while I was dying in an ICU bed.”
“You helped him attempt to seize my medical records and cover up an attempted murder.”
“You are officially terminated as corporate counsel of Vance Logistics.”
“Security will escort you from this building in exactly sixty seconds.”
“And if you ever step foot on any property owned by my family again, Detective Cruz will personally arrest you for criminal trespass.”
Sterling stood frozen, his mouth opening and closing like a suffocating fish.
He looked around the table, desperate for support, but every single board member averted their eyes in cowardly silence.
Two armed building security guards stepped into the room, standing directly behind Sterling’s chair.
Sterling grabbed his leather briefcase with trembling hands, his face burning with humiliating defeat, and hurried out of the boardroom without uttering another word.
I pulled back the massive leather executive chair at the head of the table and sat down, resting my hands comfortably over the polished wood.
Julian’s mother, Eleanor, walked up to my side, placing a warm, trembling hand over my shoulder.
Eleanor looked around at the silent, terrified executives with eyes full of sorrow and steel.
“My son is a monster who deserves to spend the rest of his natural life behind iron bars,” Eleanor declared, her voice ringing clear for every shareholder to hear.
“From this day forward, Nora Vance holds my unconditional proxy, my family's blessings, and the full authority of the Vance estate.”
The board members immediately sat up straight, nodding frantically in terrified agreement.
I looked around the room, meeting the gaze of every single executive who had once dismissed me as a quiet, harmless trophy wife.
“Vance Logistics will undergo a complete forensic restructuring starting today,” I announced with calm, absolute finality.
“The corrupt contracts will be severed, the embezzled funds will be recovered, and Julian Vance’s name will be completely scrubbed from this company’s history.”
“He wanted to bury me in the dark so he could keep this empire.”
I picked up the corporate gavel resting on the polished stand, lifting it high in the air.
May you like
“Now, he gets to watch me rule it from his prison cell.”
I brought the heavy wooden gavel down against the table with a resounding, thunderous crash that shattered the silence of the room.
