Chapter 13 - THE GLOBAL EXPANSION AND A NEW VOW

Six months after the confrontation at the penitentiary, Apex-Sterling Logistics officially rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

The iconic trading floor was packed with hundreds of investors, analysts, and international press corps eagerly watching the digital ticker flash green as our global shipping shares soared past historic market highs.

I stood on the central balcony wearing a sharp, custom-tailored navy blue dress suit, holding a ceremonial crystal gavel alongside Marcus Sterling.

When the digital clock struck 9:30 AM, the deafening roar of applause and cheers filled the grand hall as confetti rained down from the vaulted ceilings.

Microphones were thrust into my face from every direction as reporters shouted rapid-fire questions across the railing.

“Madam CEO! To what do you attribute this unprecedented market triumph after taking over the former Vance empire?”

“Clara! Rumors say you survived an incredible personal tragedy before taking the helm—how did you rebuild from the ashes?”

I looked straight into the primary camera lens, my expression calm, composed, and radiant with quiet power.

“I didn't just rebuild from the ashes,” I spoke into the microphone, my voice carrying clear and steady across the broadcast network.

“I built a fortress.”

“When the world tries to bury you in the dark, remember that you are not being buried—you are being planted.”

“And if you have the strength to fight, you will grow roots so deep that no enemy can ever tear you down.”

The applause that followed was deafening.

Later that evening, after the press conferences and board celebrations had finally concluded, Marcus and I returned to our private estate overlooking the city harbor.

Maya was already fast asleep in her nursery, clutching her wooden toy duck tightly against her chest.

Marcus and I walked out onto the wide stone terrace, holding two glasses of sparkling cider as the harbor lights reflected across the dark water.

“You know,” Marcus said softly, resting his arm around my shoulders and looking down at me with deep admiration.

“When I first met you in my compliance office years ago, I knew you had an extraordinary mind.”

“I never imagined you’d end up owning the entire shipping registry of the eastern seaboard.”

“Survival teaches you how to look past the surface,” I smiled, leaning my head against his chest.

“I didn't do it just for power, Marcus.”

“I did it so that no woman, no mother, and no person ever has to look down into a shallow grave and wonder if anyone will hear her scream.”

Marcus reached into his coat pocket, pulled out a small black velvet box, and opened it slowly.

Inside rested a stunning, custom-designed diamond-and-sapphire ring that matched the vintage pendant my grandmother had given me.

“Clara,” Marcus whispered, dropping gently to one knee on the terrace stone.

“You survived the darkest winter this city has ever seen, and you brought light back into my life.”

“Will you marry me, and let us build an empire together that nothing in this world can ever touch?”

I looked down at him, feeling the steady beat of my own heart, the warm breeze off the harbor, and the absolute certainty of my future.

May you like

“Yes, Marcus,” I smiled, tears of pure joy shining in my eyes.

“Let’s build it all.”
