Chapter 5 - The Boardroom Battle

The boardroom of Sterling Enterprise occupied the top floor of a magnificent glass tower.

At exactly 10:00 AM, twelve board members sat around a massive polished oak table.

Richard Sterling sat at the head of the table, looking incredibly smug.

Eleanor sat behind him in the observer’s row, wearing her signature pearls and an air of absolute superiority.

"Gentlemen," Richard began, standing up and buttoning his expensive suit. "We are all grieving the tragic loss of my son, Mark."

He paused, feigning a moment of sorrow.

"But the company must move forward. As the patriarch of the Sterling family, it is my duty to step into the role of CEO to ensure stability."

The board members murmured in agreement.

"If there are no objections," Jenkins, the corporate lawyer, said, "we will proceed with the vote to transfer executive power to Richard Sterling."

"I object."

The voice was clear, calm, and cut through the room like a blade.

Every head turned toward the heavy double doors at the back of the boardroom.

Clara stood in the doorway, flanked by Audrey Vance and two imposing security guards.

She wore the midnight-blue suit, her posture flawless, her expression completely unreadable.

Richard’s face drained of color.

"What is the meaning of this?" he shouted. "Security! Remove this woman immediately! She doesn't belong here!"

None of the building's guards moved.

Clara walked slowly into the room, her heels clicking against the marble floor.

"I belong exactly where I am," Clara said, stopping at the opposite end of the table.

Eleanor stood up, her face flushed with anger. "How dare you show your face here, you gold-digging tramp? After everything we did for you!"

"Everything you did for me?" Clara tilted her head. "Like kicking your grandchildren out into a thunderstorm? Like changing the locks on my house?"

The board members exchanged confused and uncomfortable glances.

Richard slammed his fist on the table.

"Jenkins, get her out! She has no shares in this company!"

Audrey Vance stepped forward, dropping a thick stack of legal documents onto the polished wood.

"Actually, Richard, she does," Audrey said, her voice dripping with professional venom.

Audrey began passing copies of the documents to the board members.

"Under the terms of Mark Sterling's final will and testament, his 51% controlling interest in Sterling Enterprise was placed into a blind trust."

Audrey smiled as she delivered the final blow.

"Mrs. Clara Sterling is the sole executor and beneficiary of that trust. She holds the majority vote. This meeting cannot proceed without her approval."

The room erupted into chaos.

Jenkins frantically flipped through the documents, his face turning pale.

"Mr. Sterling," Jenkins whispered, his voice trembling. "It's... it's authentic. She owns the company."

Richard stumbled backward, falling heavily into his chair.

He stared at Clara, his eyes wide with a mixture of shock and sheer terror.

The "nobody" he had thrown out into the rain was now holding his entire world in the palm of her hand.

May you like

Clara leaned forward, resting her hands on the table, staring directly into Richard’s eyes.

"You called this meeting to appoint a new CEO," Clara said smoothly. "So let's vote."
