Chapter 6 - The Raging Storm and the Broken Titan

Ten minutes after Clara slipped out into the freezing night, Adrian walked down from the nursery, a warm smile lingering on his face after successfully putting Thomas back to sleep.

He strolled into his third-floor office, expecting to find Clara organizing her supply logs or waiting with a cup of warm tea. Instead, the room was bone-chillingly empty, dark, and dead silent.

His eyes were immediately drawn to the single piece of white notepaper resting squarely in the center of his massive mahogany desk.

Adrian crossed the room in three long, frantic strides, snatched the note up, and scanned the frantic handwriting.

As the horrifying words registered in his brain, the world around him utterly shattered.

"No..." Adrian breathed, his voice cracking violently. "No, no, no!"

Before he could even process the full horror of the setup, heavy, pounding knocks echoed from the front doors downstairs, followed by the harsh, authoritative voices of police officers demanding entry under a warrant for financial embezzlement and corporate fraud.

Downstairs in the grand foyer, two uniformed police detectives flanked Marcus Thorne, who stood smugly near the entrance wrapped in a cashmere overcoat, wearing a victorious, venomous smirk that stretched from ear to ear.

Adrian descended the grand marble staircase like an avenging angel descending from the gates of hell. His dark eyes burned with such pure, murderous fury that the two police officers instinctively reached for their holstered sidearms.

"Adrian Castellano," the lead detective stated nervously, holding up a paper document. "We have an execution warrant for a financial audit investigation regarding your household staff—"

"Get out of my house," Adrian growled, his voice dropping into a terrifying, lethal register that made the heavy crystal chandelier above them vibrate.

Marcus stepped forward, playing the concerned, righteous corporate partner. "I'm sorry, Adrian, but the financial evidence of embezzlement against your nanny is absolute and undeniable. She stole twenty thousand dollars from your private accounts tonight and fled into the snow just as we arrived. She played you for a fool, old friend."

Adrian didn't yell. He didn't scream. He walked down the final step, closed the distance between himself and Marcus in a heartbeat, and grabbed the corporate shark by the lapels of his expensive cashmere coat, lifting him a full six inches off the marble floor with terrifying raw strength.

"You fabricated this entire filthy lie," Adrian hissed right into Marcus's terrified, pale face, his voice trembling with homicidal rage. "You framed an innocent girl because you were too cowardly to face me in a fair board fight. If anything happens to Clara tonight, Marcus... I swear to God above, I will strip you of every penny, every stitch of clothing, and every breath you take, and throw you into a federal penitentiary where you will rot until the end of time."

Marcus choked for air, his smug arrogance instantly evaporating into sheer, pants-wetting terror. "A-Adrian... security... let me go—"

Adrian threw Marcus violently against the massive oak front doors, sending the corporate traitor crashing hard to the floor.

"Get out of my sight before I forget I'm a civilized man," Adrian roared.

Marcus scrambled up off the floor like a terrified animal, tripping over his own expensive shoes, and bolted out the door into the freezing night, dragging the reluctant police officers behind him as they realized they had just tangled with a cornered titan they could never control.

Adrian stood alone in the grand, echoing foyer. He looked down at the crumpled note in his hand, feeling the absolute crushing weight of loneliness closing in around him once more.

But this time, he wasn't going to let grief win.

He pulled out his heavy encrypted satellite phone, dialed a direct number, and spoke three cold, precise words to his private security chief:

"Find her. Bring her back to me before the sun rises, or consider yourself a dead man."
