Chapter 6 - THE CORPORATE DECONSTRUCTION

The trading floor of Cross Atlantic Holdings was a chaotic symphony of ringing phones, shouting traders, and glowing monitors displaying rivers of red and green data. But inside Nathaniel’s private glass-walled boardroom on the top floor, absolute silence reigned.
I sat at the head of the massive conference table, staring at a massive holographic display projecting the financial breakdown of Adrian’s startup, Vale Technologies.
“His entire company is built on a house of cards,” Nathaniel’s chief financial officer, Marcus, announced, clicking his laser pointer across a complex web of shell corporations. “He leveraged your family’s real estate assets as collateral for a forty-million-dollar expansion loan without your authorization.”
“Which means the bank will seize his personal assets to cover the default the moment we invalidate his corporate charter,” I noted, my fingers tapping rhythmically against the armrest.
“Precisely,” Nathaniel said, leaning back in his chair with a cup of black coffee. “Without your family’s backing, Vale Technologies has a market valuation of exactly zero dollars. Within forty-eight hours, he’ll be bankrupt.”
The door to the boardroom suddenly flew open, crashing against the glass wall with a loud bang.
Adrian stood there, disheveled, his designer suit wrinkled, and his face pale with panic. Two corporate security guards grabbed his arms instantly, but he stared wildly past them straight at me.
“Evelyn! You’re insane!” Adrian screamed, struggling against the guards. “You froze all my accounts! The banks are calling in my loans! I can’t even buy a cup of coffee!”
I stood up slowly, walking around the table until I was standing just a few feet away from him. The man who had once seemed so charming and sophisticated now looked like a cornered animal.
“You tried to steal forty million dollars of my inheritance, Adrian,” I said, my voice eerily calm. “Did you really think there wouldn’t be a price to pay?”
“It was just business!” he shouted desperately, his voice cracking. “Your mother approved it! We were going to merge our assets once we were married!”
“My mother is currently sitting in a holding cell facing felony charges,” I replied smoothly. “And our wedding was canceled the moment your mistress decided to walk down the aisle in my grandmother’s dress.”
Adrian’s eyes darted frantically around the room, finally landing on Nathaniel, who sat watching us with cold, predatory amusement. “Cross! You’re letting her destroy me over a domestic dispute? This is corporate sabotage!”
“This is justice, Mr. Vale,” Nathaniel said, his voice cutting through the room like a razor blade. “And if you don’t remove yourself from this building in the next ten seconds, my security team won’t just throw you out—they’ll feed you to federal prosecutors who are already investigating your offshore tax evasion.”
Adrian swallowed hard, the last remnants of his bravado completely shattering. He looked at me with a mixture of hatred and absolute terror.
“You’ll pay for this, Evelyn,” he hissed before the guards hauled him backward out of the room, slamming the heavy glass doors shut behind him.

I let out a long breath, feeling the last lingering weight of my past relationship finally lift from my shoulders.
“Well,” Nathaniel said softly, standing up and walking over to me. “That concludes chapter one of your corporate restoration. Are you ready for chapter two?”
