Chapter 9 - The Uninvited Guest

The next morning, sunlight poured through the massive glass windows of the estate, illuminating the serene pine forest outside. Despite the luxury surrounding me, my stomach churned with anxiety as I paced back and forth across the hardwood floor of the master suite.

A soft knock sounded at the door, and Liam walked into the room, looking bewildered, exhausted, but entirely unharmed.

“Emma!” Liam exclaimed, rushing across the room and pulling me into a fierce, protective hug. “Are you out of your mind? Secret billionaires, private security teams, helicopters—what kind of telenovela have you dragged us into?”

I pulled back, offering a weak, apologetic smile as I gestured for him to sit down. “I’m sorry, Liam. I never wanted you to be involved in this. I was just trying to keep you safe from my uncle.”

“Your uncle is currently losing his mind on local news broadcasts claiming you’ve been kidnapped by a psychotic tech mogul,” Liam said, pointing toward the wall-mounted television where a breaking news report was flashing across the screen.

My eyes widened as I saw a photograph of my face splashed across the news anchor's desk, accompanied by sensationalized headlines about missing heiresses and hostile corporate takeovers. My uncle stood beside a podium at a press conference, shedding fake tears for the cameras as he begged for my safe return.

“The lying bastard,” I whispered, my fists clenching at my sides. “He’s trying to play the victim so he can take total control of the trust fund before I turn twenty-six next week.”

Before Liam could reply, the heavy oak doors of the suite swung open, and Alessandro walked in with a cold, terrifying smile playing on his lips.

“Your uncle just walked straight into a trap of his own making,” Alessandro announced calmly, tossing a tablet onto the coffee table. “He filed a formal missing persons report and petitioned a corrupt judge for emergency guardianship of your estate.”

“Which means he’s exposing himself to federal audit,” Liam added, his eyes widening as he read the legal documents on the tablet screen. “He just handed us the exact evidence we need to prove financial fraud.”

“Exactly,” Alessandro replied, turning his gaze toward me with unwavering intensity. “Today, we end this. But to do it, Elizabeth needs to step out of the shadows and face him publicly on her own terms.”
