Chapter 4 - THE EXPULSION: WHEN ROYALTY BECOMES OUTCASTS

The confrontation at the gate drew the attention of neighboring estate owners, who peered curiously over manicured hedges to watch the magnificent collapse of the Miller family’s social standing.

Robert tried to intercept the police officers before they reached the gates.

“Officer, there’s been a terrible misunderstanding! I live here! That is my wife’s house—well, my ex-wife’s house! My clothes, my passport, my car are all inside!”

“Sir, step away from the gate,” the officer instructed firmly, noting the new deed already registered in Julian Thorne’s name on his mobile terminal. “The property owner has requested formal trespass notices be issued to all three of you. If you attempt to enter this premises again, you will be arrested.”

Tiffany began to weep loudly, sinking onto her expensive bridal train as the dusty asphalt stained the delicate white fabric.

“My baby!” she wailed, clutching her stomach with theatrical desperation. “The stress is going to make me lose the baby! Robert, do something! You’re a man! Protect us!”

Robert looked utterly paralyzed.

For his entire adult life, he had drifted through existence like a privileged guest.

First supported by his wealthy, ambitious wife, and shielded by his domineering mother, he had never faced a single consequence for his actions.

Now, stripped of his credit cards, his car, his home, and his social standing, he stood exposed as a fraud.

His mother, refusing to accept defeat, cornered Julian near the intercom box.

“You think you’ve won, don’t you?” she hissed, her face contorted with venom. “Audrey is nothing without our family name! She’s cold, she’s barren, she’s an empty shell! She will crawl back on her knees begging for Robert within a week because no other man could ever tolerate her!”

Julian looked down at her with pity.

“Madam, Audrey just finalized a multi-million dollar corporate acquisition that makes her one of the most sought-after executives in the tech sector. Trust me, the only person crawling on their knees tonight will be your son when he tries to figure out how to pay for a cheap motel room.”

With a flick of his wrist, Julian pressed the remote button.

The heavy iron security gates swung shut with a definitive, heavy metallic clank.

Locking them out completely.

Robert stumbled forward, pressing his palms against the iron bars.

“Audrey!” he shouted into the night air, knowing full well I wasn’t there to hear him. “Audrey, please! Pick up your phone! Let’s talk about this like adults!”

The only response was the sound of distant ocean waves crashing against the Malibu shore.

The same ocean waves that had once lulled us to sleep in each other's arms, before greed and betrayal poisoned the sanctuary I had built with my own hands.

The police officers stood by their cruiser, arms crossed, waiting for the trespassers to vacate the public right-of-way.

“You’ve got ten minutes to move your luggage off the property line, folks,” the officer warned. “After that, it goes into municipal impound.”

Defeated, humiliated, and utterly destitute, Robert turned back toward his weeping new bride and his raging mother.

The fairytale was officially over.
