Chapter 8 - THE FINAL VOW: A NEW DAWN FOR THE VARRIC EMPIRE

The hammer of the guard’s pistol clicked back.

Time seemed to slow to a crawl. In that fractional second, Matteo lunged forward despite having no weapon, ready to take a bullet for the woman holding his son. Elena screamed, throwing her arms around Matteo to hold him back from certain death.

But the bullet never fired.

Before the guard could pull the trigger, the reinforced windows behind him shattered inward in a shower of glass and thunder.

Three elite tactical operatives—members of an independent counter-intelligence unit Elena had secretly contacted before reaching the gates—rappelled down from the roof, crashing into the nursery.

Within three seconds, the two corrupt guards were disarmed, slammed to the floor, and zip-tied with clinical precision.

The head of security tried to turn his weapon toward Elena, but Matteo—fueled by a blind, primal rage—charged across the room like a freight train, tackling the traitor over the low nursery table. The traitor’s gun went off, blowing a harmless hole in the ceiling before Matteo drove his fist straight into the man’s jaw, rendering him instantly unconscious.

Sirens wailed in the distance below, rapidly approaching the estate gates.

Heavy silence flooded the nursery once more, broken only by the sound of shattered glass crunching underfoot and the steady, rhythmic breathing of baby Nico.

The infant hadn't even cried. Safe in Liana’s arms, shielded by his biological mother and father, he simply blinked at the flashing red and blue lights reflecting through the broken windows.

Three weeks later, the headlines across every major global financial newspaper read: VARRIC EMPIRE PURGED OF CORRUPTION; FAMILY REUNITED AFTER TRAGIC LABYRINTH OF DECEPTION.

The grand foyer of the Varric mansion looked different now. The cold, sterile aura of wealth and paranoia was gone, replaced by the warm, chaotic sounds of life.

In the sunlit living room, Matteo and Elena sat on the white velvet sofa, holding each other as if afraid the other might vanish into thin air.

Standing near the tall garden doors was Liana. She wasn't wearing a red maid uniform anymore. She wore a simple, elegant dress, and in her arms, she held Nico—her son, and Elena’s son, bound together by a twist of fate that defied human logic.

Matteo stood up, walking slowly across the rug toward Liana and the baby. He stopped a few feet away, his expression solemn, filled with an eternal, unshakable gratitude.

“You saved our family, Liana,” Matteo said softly, his voice thick with emotion. “Not just by calming him that first day, but by uncovering the truth no one else was brave enough to look for.”

“I didn't just save your family, Mr. Varric,” Liana smiled gently, looking down at the baby who had healed a piece of her broken soul. “He saved mine, too.”

Elena walked over, wrapping her arms around both Liana and the child, their tears mingling in the warm morning light.

Outside, the sun rose fully over the Varric estate, burning away the last remnants of the fog, casting a golden glow over a family that had finally found its way home.
