Chapter 5 - The Confrontation

Inside the bridal suite, nothing felt beautiful anymore.

The bouquet was on the floor.

The bride was shaking.

And I stood outside on my private balcony in jeans and a white T-shirt.

I was calm while my phone lit up with dozens of missed calls from my parents.

Suddenly, I heard heavy footsteps running down the hallway.

My suite door burst open.

Vanessa rushed onto the balcony in her heavy wedding gown, red-faced and breathless.

She ripped the phone from my hand.

It skidded across the tile floor.

“Fix my wedding now!” she screamed.

Her voice was shrill, cracking with hysteria.

I looked down at the phone.

Then I looked back at her.

No panic.

No pleading.

Just a cold, quiet stare.

“You told me not to come,” I said softly.

“You said I was unnecessary.”

My parents rushed into the room right behind her, completely out of breath.

My mother was in tears. "Mara, please! They're packing up the chairs! Stop this right now!"

"I'm not doing anything," I replied, crossing my arms. "I'm just a guest who isn't invited."

Vanessa stepped forward, pointing a trembling finger at my face.

"You are ruining the best day of my life because you're jealous!"

"Call them right now and put your card back on file!"

Then, a deep voice echoed from the doorway.

"Put her card back on file?"

We all turned.

It was David, the groom.

He was in his tuxedo, but his tie was undone.

He looked around the room, slowly realizing this wasn’t a standard bridal meltdown.

It was a financial disaster.

And worse, it was a massive lie.
