Chapter 11 - The Final Reckoning

The GPS tracker on the stolen ledger blinked steadily on the tactical display inside the estate’s command center.

“He docked at the abandoned grain silos on the south pier,” Marcus announced, tapping a series of commands into the keyboard. “He thinks he’s meeting a buyer from the Eastern Syndicate.”

Joseph stood beside the monitor, loading a fresh magazine into his sidearm with a rhythmic, mechanical click.

“We finish this tonight,” Joseph said, turning his dark gaze toward Audrey, who was standing near the door wearing a tactical vest over her sweater.

“I’m coming with you,” Audrey said, her voice leaving no room for argument.

“Audrey, no,” Rose protested, stepping forward with tears in her eyes. “You’ve done enough.”

“Julian betrayed us, and he took my mother,” Audrey said, her hazel eyes hardening with absolute resolve. “This is my family too now.”

Joseph looked at her for a long, silent moment before giving a slow, approving nod.

“Let’s move,” Joseph commanded.

Twenty minutes later, the convoy surrounded the towering, derelict grain silos on the south pier, cutting off all possible escape routes.

Joseph and Marcus breached the rusted side door in total silence, moving through the cavernous concrete interior like ghosts.

High up on the second-level catwalk, Julian was frantically trying to crack the encryption on the stolen ledger using a portable laptop.

“Come on, open up...” Julian muttered to himself, sweating profusely in the damp night air.

“You won't find the decryption key on page one, Julian,” Joseph’s voice echoed up from the dark floor below.

Julian whipped his head around, his eyes wide with blind panic as he spotted Joseph, Marcus, and Audrey standing at the base of the metal stairs.

“Stay back!” Julian screamed, pulling a backup knife from his belt and holding it out in front of him. “I’ll burn this whole building down with the files inside!”

“You don't have the codes to burn anything,” Audrey said, stepping up the first few steps of the metal staircase with absolute fearlessness.

Julian lunged forward to grab the laptop, but Marcus fired a warning shot that punched a clean hole through the metal grating inches from his boots.

“Drop the knife, Julian,” Joseph ordered, stepping up onto the catwalk until he stood towering over the trembling traitor.

Julian dropped the blade with a loud metallic clatter, falling heavily to his knees in total defeat.

“Please... Mr. Salvini... I was just following orders from the Outfit,” Julian sobbed, looking up with desperate plea.

Joseph didn't flinch. He reached down, snatched the black ledger from the floor, and slid it securely inside his jacket pocket.

“You broke the only rule that mattered,” Joseph said coldly. “You touched my family.”

Marcus stepped forward, placing heavy steel cuffs around Julian’s wrists before hauling him roughly to his feet.

“Take him to the freight ship,” Joseph instructed Marcus. “Let him explain his loyalty to the Siberian dock workers.”

As Marcus dragged the screaming traitor down the stairs, total silence descended upon the grand, echoing grain silo.

Audrey let out a long, shaky breath, feeling the heavy burden of the past week finally lift from her shoulders.

Joseph walked over to her, placing a heavy, protective hand on her shoulder as they looked out over the Chicago skyline glowing in the distance.
