Chapter 12 - The Last Dance

One year later, the DeLuca estate looked entirely different.
The sprawling stone courtyards were no longer choked with dark-suited lieutenants, paranoid security checkpoints, or the suffocating tension of an underground syndicate holding its breath. The heavy iron gates stood open to the warm afternoon sunlight, welcoming international business partners, philanthropic boards, and community leaders who now came to discuss legitimate global shipping logistics, massive charitable foundations, and community development projects funded by the DeLuca Group.
Inside the grand ballroom, the black marble floors were immaculate, reflecting the golden afternoon light pouring through twelve-foot arched windows. The string quartet near the staircase was playing a light, sweeping waltz—not for a tense, terrifying mafia gala, but for a celebration of a completely new era.
At the center of the room, standing beside a massive arrangement of freshly cut white roses that smelled of cedar and citrus, Lena wore a stunning, elegant white silk dress that caught the sunlight like liquid gold. No household uniform, no apron, no crooked name tag pinned to her chest. She was a partner, an equal, and the undisputed heart of the entire estate.
Adrian stood beside her in a sharply tailored navy tuxedo, his dark hair neatly swept back, his strong jaw relaxed, and the heavy gold cuff links shining on his wrists. He didn't have to look over his shoulder or command obedience with a sharp glance; the room naturally, effortlessly revolved around the quiet, unbreakable peace they had built together.
As the string quartet’s melody swelled softly through the high ceilings, Adrian slowly extended his hand toward her, his dark eyes burning with the exact same quiet intensity he had held the very first day they met across the ballroom floor.
“May I have this dance?” he asked, his voice low and rich.
Lena smiled—a bright, genuine, radiant smile that completely transformed her face—and placed her hand securely in his open palm.
“Only if you promise to let me lead,” she teased softly.
May you like
Adrian let out a deep, warm laugh that echoed through the grand ballroom, pulling her flush against his chest as they stepped out onto the polished black marble floor together.
Around them, friends, business associates, and staff smiled and applauded, but neither Adrian nor Lena noticed the crowd at all. As they moved seamlessly to the rhythm of the music beneath the golden sunlight, the past finally faded into absolute nothingness, leaving only the endless, open road stretching out before them, hand in hand, through every midnight and every dawn to come.
