Chapter 7 - The Fall of the Queen

The jury deliberated for less than four hours.

The courtroom was packed to maximum capacity as the foreman stood up. I held Elena close, my arm wrapped securely around her waist. She was shaking, her eyes fixed on the judge.

"On the charge of Conspiracy to Commit Murder, how do you find the defendant?" the judge asked.

"Guilty, Your Honor."

"On the charge of First-Degree Kidnapping?"

"Guilty, Your Honor."

The list went on, each "Guilty" striking like a hammer blow to Margaret's legacy. With every word, Margaret seemed to physically shrink, her arrogant posture finally collapsing. She wasn't an untouchable titan of industry anymore; she was just an old, cruel woman facing the rest of her life in a concrete box.

The judge didn't hold back during sentencing. "Margaret Vance, you used your immense wealth and privilege not to build, but to destroy. You acted with a malice and cold-blooded calculation that is truly chilling. You are sentenced to life in federal prison, without the possibility of parole."

As the bailiffs moved in to handcuff her, Margaret turned to look at me one last time. There were no apologies in her eyes, only a bitter realization of her own defeat.

"You've ruined the family name, Daniel," she spat venomously.

"No, Mother," I replied, my voice carrying over the murmur of the courtroom. "I cleansed it."

I turned away from her, taking Elena's hand, and we walked out of the courtroom together. The heavy oak doors swung shut behind us, closing the chapter on Margaret Vance forever. The media frenzy outside was deafening, but for the first time in years, the noise didn't bother me.

We stepped out into the bright afternoon sun. The air felt cleaner, lighter.

"It's over," Elena whispered, looking up at the blue sky, tears of genuine relief streaming down her face.

"It's over," I confirmed, kissing away her tears. "We're going home."
