Chapter 10 - And They Ruled the City Not With Fear, But With Love

As the first notes of the waltz filled the grand ballroom, Dominic held out his hand, inviting Clara to the center of the polished marble floor.
She placed her hand in his without hesitation, and together, they stepped into the light of the crystal chandeliers.
The surrounding guests immediately parted, clearing a wide, respectful circle for them, watching in quiet awe as the most powerful man in Chicago gracefully spun his wife across the floor. There was no trace of the dark, ruthless underworld king that people whispered about in shadow; there was only a man deeply, fiercely in love with the woman who had saved his soul from the darkness years ago.
Clara rested her head gently against Dominic’s shoulder as they moved in perfect rhythm to the music, her mind wandering back to the chaotic night that had changed everything.
She remembered the sound of tearing silk, the cruel words of Sloane Harrington, and the terrifying, cold fury in Dominic’s voice when he called her his wife for the very first time in front of three hundred frozen witnesses.
At the time, it had felt like the world was ending. But looking back now, standing here in the heart of Chicago surrounded by genuine respect and everlasting love, Clara realized it wasn't an end at all.
It was the ultimate proof that no matter how loud the arrogant and cruel might be, true power always belonged to those who protected with loyalty, loved with absolute devotion, and walked through the storms of life hand in hand.
As the final notes of the waltz faded away, the ballroom erupted into thunderous, standing applause. Guests clapped and cheered, not out of fear or obligation, but out of genuine admiration for the couple standing at the pinnacle of Chicago society.
Dominic didn't bow or wave to the crowd. He simply looked down at Clara, brushing a stray lock of hair from her cheek, his dark eyes shining with quiet emotion.
“Shall we go home, my love?” Dominic whispered softly.
Clara smiled brightly, her fingers intertwining securely with his.

“Let’s go home, Dom.”
With that, the billionaire king of Chicago and his quiet, steadfast queen turned away from the cheering crowds, walking up the marble staircase together, leaving the glittering lights of high society behind them, ready to write the rest of their lives in absolute peace, side by side, forever.
