Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Coup And The Fall Of Sterling Industries

While Brandon sat rotting in a federal holding cell, the boardroom on the top floor of Sterling Industries was packed to absolute capacity.

The heavy mahogany double doors swung open, and I walked in, flanked by Marcus Vance and two armed federal marshals.

Every head at the massive marble executive table snapped up in stunned disbelief.

Senior board members, vice presidents, and major shareholders dropped their pens, staring at me as if I were a ghost risen from the grave.

Vice President Thomas Sterling—Brandon’s opportunistic uncle who had eagerly signed off on the emergency asset liquidation—stood up so fast his leather chair crashed backward onto the carpet.

"E-Eleanor?!" Thomas stammered, his face turning the color of curdled milk.

"That's... that's impossible. The news said you were dead! The funeral was yesterday!"

"The funeral was for a box of wet sand and lead weights, Thomas," I said smoothly, walking toward the head of the table and taking my rightful seat in the oversized leather executive chair.

"And as the primary majority shareholder of Sterling Industries—a position established by my family's founding capital before Brandon and I were even married—I am officially revoking all executive powers held by the Sterling family."

Thomas recovered his composure, his expression twisting from shock into a mask of corporate aggression.

"You can't just walk in here and seize control!" Thomas shouted, slamming his palms onto the marble table.

"Brandon is the CEO! Even if he's currently indisposed, the board holds emergency proxy authority!"

Marcus Vance stepped forward, slapping a thick sheaf of legal documents down onto the marble in front of Thomas.

"Read page four, paragraph two, Thomas," Marcus invited with a sharp, humorless smile.

"That’s the morals and criminal liability clause embedded in the corporate charter by Eleanor’s grandfather. It dictates that any executive arrested for federal felonies, corporate embezzlement, or attempted murder of a primary stakeholder is immediately stripped of all voting shares, and their assets are forfeited to the primary heir."

Thomas snatched up the papers, his eyes scanning the dense legal text frantically as his breath hitched in his throat.

Every single loophole Brandon had spent years engineering to steal my company had been systematically dismantled by my family's legal team overnight.

"You're ruined, Thomas," I said, leaning back in my chair and crossing my legs, my eyes locking onto his with terrifying calm.

"Your nephew is facing consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole. The federal government has seized all corporate accounts tied to his shell companies, and this board is now under my direct receivership."

One by one, the other board members—cowards who had looked the other way while Brandon siphoned funds and marginalized my role in the company—slumped back into their seats, silently accepting their defeat.

They knew when a war was lost.

"Effective immediately," I announced, my voice ringing clear and authoritative across the silent boardroom, "every department head appointed by Brandon is terminated without severance. A forensic audit will begin at noon today to recover every penny he stole from our accounts."

I stood up, smoothing down the front of my black silk dress, and looked around the room with absolute dominion.

"Welcome to the new Sterling Industries, gentlemen," I whispered, turning on my heel and walking out of the boardroom before any of them could utter a single word of protest.
