Chapter 14 - THE UPPER WEST SIDE CONFRONTATION: DELIVERING THE ULTIMATE EVICTION NOTICE

The private penthouse apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan offered sweeping, breathtaking views of Central Park, but inside the luxury suite, the atmosphere was thick with the nervous sweat of a cornered criminal.

Jean-Paul Laurent—a slick, fifty-year-old diamond broker with slicked-back graying hair and expensive Italian loafers—pasted a nervous smile onto his face as the private security deadbolts clicked open.

He had expected his hired courier to have successfully delivered the second warning note.

Instead, the heavy oak door swung wide open, revealing Adrian Voss standing on the threshold with cold, lethal precision—and standing right beside him, impeccably tailored in her charcoal-gray pantsuit, was Camille Voss.

Laurent’s face went from pale to stark, ghostly white. He staggered backward, nearly tripping over an antique Persian rug.

“Voss... Mrs. Voss,” Laurent stammered, his hands shaking as he raised them defensively. “This... this is an unauthorized intrusion! I’ll call the local authorities—!”

“Please, call them, Jean-Paul,” I invited smoothly, stepping past Adrian into the luxurious living room, my heels clicking sharply against the hardwood floor. “Tell the police department that the man who smuggled blood diamonds out of Sierra Leone for twenty years is currently trespassing in your own living room.”

Laurent swallowed hard, his throat dry as bone. “I don't know what you’re talking about... I’m a legitimate broker—!”

Adrian closed the front door behind them with a heavy, deliberate click that echoed like a gunshot through the penthouse.

He walked slowly toward Laurent, stopping just two feet away from the trembling broker, towering over him with terrifying, inescapable presence.

“You mailed a threat to my wife,” Adrian stated quietly, his voice dropping into a register that made the air in the room feel heavy and suffocating. “You threatened the miners who supply her ethical network. And you used my city to do it.”

Laurent fell backward, his legs collapsing against the edge of a velvet sofa, his eyes wide with absolute, unadulterated terror. “I was paid to do it! The Ropemark Cartel... they forced me! I didn't write the note on my own—!”

“I don't care who paid you, Jean-Paul,” Adrian interrupted, his obsidian eyes locking onto Laurent’s soul. “As of midnight tonight, your brokerage license is revoked, your European bank accounts have been liquidated into federal restitution funds, and your name has been permanently blacklisted from every diamond exchange on the planet.”

Laurent burst into hysterical sobbing, clutching his head in his hands. “You’re ruining me! You’re taking everything I have!”

“No, Jean-Paul,” I said, stepping forward to look down at him with absolute, unyielding calm. “We aren't taking everything you have. We’re simply making sure you never steal a future from anyone ever again.”

Adrian pulled a sleek digital signature pad from his overcoat pocket, tossed it onto the coffee table in front of Laurent, and dropped a gold fountain pen right beside it.

“Sign the global confession and asset-transfer waiver,” Adrian commanded softly. “Or you can spend the rest of your natural life in a supermax prison cell reflecting on the true cost of threatening my wife.”

Laurent didn't hesitate for a single microsecond. He grabbed the gold pen with trembling fingers and frantically scribbled his signature across the dotted line.
