Chapter 15 - The Ultimate Victory And The New Dawn Of The Hawthorne Empire

The digital clock on the boardroom wall ticked silently toward midnight.
Outside, a heavy summer thunderstorm lashed against the forty-floor glass windows of Hawthorne Tower, casting dramatic flashes of lightning across the obsidian conference table.
My phone chimed violently.
It was an encrypted video call request from an unrecognized international IP address.
I tapped the screen, projecting the call live onto the massive boardroom monitor.
The face of Marcus Sterling—sharp-featured, arrogant, and sweating profusely despite the air-conditioned room—appeared on the screen.
“Claire Hawthorne,” Marcus sneered, his voice dripping with condescension as he stared down the camera lens.
“I hear you’re running the family empire now.”
“Too bad your little reign is about to come crashing down.”
“My acquisition lawyers just filed the final patent transfer papers for Hawthorne Heritage and Sterling Capital.”
“By tomorrow morning, you’ll be locked out of this building just like your father was.”
I didn't blink.
I didn't flinch.
I reached across the table, tapped my tablet three times, and transferred a single encrypted PDF document directly to his screen.
“Check your terminal, Marcus,” I said smoothly.
Marcus frowned, looking away from the camera as he opened the document.
His arrogant smirk vanished instantly.
His face turned the ghostly, terrifying shade of paper-white that I had seen on my father and Vanessa months ago.
“This... this is impossible,” Marcus stammered, his hands shaking as he held his tablet.
“The shell company... the Cayman Islands holding... it’s all registered under...”
“Under Hawthorne Heritage Holdings, managed by sole trustee Claire E. Hawthorne,” I finished for him, my voice ringing with absolute, unshakeable authority through the boardroom speakers.
“You didn't acquire my empire, Marcus.”
“You just spent fifty million dollars of your investors' money buying a front-row ticket to your own corporate execution.”
“And just like my sister and my father, you’re about to find out what happens when you underestimate the quiet girl sitting at the back of the room.”
Marcus opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.
I pressed the red disconnect button on my console, plunging the monitor back into darkness.
Richard Sterling let out a deep, booming laugh, standing up from his chair and raising his glass of sparkling water toward me in a silent toast.
The directors erupted into spontaneous applause, their voices echoing off the vaulted ceiling of the tower.
I turned away from the screen and looked out the towering glass windows at the glittering city lights stretching out endlessly into the horizon.
The girl who had been pushed to the marble floor in a cheap dress was gone forever.
In her place stood the undisputed queen of the financial world.
And the family table?
May you like
I didn't need a seat at theirs anymore.
I built an entire empire of my own.
