Chapter 11 - The Final Architect of Chaos

The federal sweep of the Michigan Avenue server facility stripped Victor Vance’s underground syndicate of its financial oxygen within less than thirty minutes.
Up in the glass-walled conference room of Moretti Holdings, the digital dashboard displayed a cascading series of red indicators turning green as asset freezes were confirmed across Swiss, Cayman, and domestic accounts.
Dante Moretti stood by the panoramic window, his suit jacket removed, his shirtsleeves rolled up to the elbows, watching the midday Chicago traffic flow with a measured, predatory calm.
Marcus Vance stepped into the executive suite, holding a secure encrypted tablet that was blinking with high-priority data packets.
"Federal Marshals just picked up Victor Vance at his private residence in Lincoln Park," Marcus reported, his voice crisp and professional. "He didn't even try to run; his security details abandoned him the moment the primary accounts hit zero."
"And Arthur Pendelton?" Dante asked, not turning around.
"Singing like a canary in federal custody," Marcus replied with a faint smirk. "Every shell company, every corrupted municipal official, and every bribe ledger is now entering public record. Sterling & Cross is officially dead."
Dante turned slowly, his dark eyes narrowing slightly. "What about the remaining field operatives? The thugs who assaulted Harper in the alley?"
"Ray Miller and his two associates are locked down in the county jail facing federal racketeering charges alongside corporate conspiracy," Marcus confirmed. "Nobody is posting bail for them."
Dante nodded once, a gesture of cold, definitive finality.
"Good," Dante murmured. "Make sure our legal team ensures they serve every single day of the maximum sentence."
Marcus hesitated for a moment, adjusting his cuffs before speaking again. "Boss... Miss Vance discharged herself from St. Jude’s a second time about ten minutes ago. She bypassed our security monitor and came straight back to her desk on the forty-first floor."
Dante’s eyebrows rose slightly, a mixture of profound exasperation and deep, silent admiration crossing his chiseled features.
"She is currently reviewing the Q3 municipal zoning board schedules with a pack of ice resting against her bruised ribs," Marcus added with a dry tone.

A slow, rare smile touched the corners of Dante’s mouth.
"Let her work, Marcus," Dante said softly, buttoning his jacket. "Some people are simply built out of steel and stubbornness."
