Chapter 12 - The Courthouse and the Public Storm

By noon, the steps of the county courthouse were swarming with local reporters, camera crews, and curious onlookers hungry for scandalous details about the fall of the Whitmore dynasty.

The flashbulbs erupted like a relentless storm of lightning as the black sedan carrying Thomas Whitmore and Claire pulled up to the curb.

Guarded by two county deputies, Thomas stepped out of the vehicle, his face carved from stone as he navigated the sea of microphones thrust into his face.

“Mr. Whitmore! Is it true your daughter was locked away for three decades?” shouted a reporter from the front row.

“Did Julian Vance orchestrate the entire conspiracy to steal the trust fund?” another voice yelled over the roar of the crowd.

Thomas did not answer their questions; he kept his eyes fixed on the heavy glass doors of the courthouse, moving forward with deliberate, steady steps.

Claire walked closely by his side, shielding him from aggressive cameramen until they successfully slipped inside the secure perimeter of the building.

Inside the grand courtroom, the atmosphere was thick with intense legal theater.

Julian Vance sat at the defense table, wearing a crisp orange jumpsuit, his hands cuffed in front of him, his expression a mask of cold, unrepentant fury.

His high-priced defense attorney was whispering frantically into his ear, trying to negotiate a damage-control plea, but Julian's eyes remained locked on his father as Thomas walked down the center aisle.

“Rise for the honorable Judge Henderson,” the bailiff announced sharply.

The judge entered the chamber, took his seat, and immediately addressed the packed courtroom.

“We are here for an emergency injunction regarding the custody, estate assets, and criminal indictments associated with the Whitmore family trust,” Judge Henderson stated, adjusting his glasses.

“The prosecution has submitted conclusive forensic evidence, witness depositions, and physical proof of identity for Elena Whitmore, who was falsely declared deceased in 1996.”

Julian suddenly surged to his feet, rattling his chains against the wooden table.

“Your Honor, this entire proceeding is based on the senile delusions of an incompetent old man manipulated by a rogue caregiver!” Julian shouted, his voice echoing off the courtroom walls.

“My father lacks the cognitive capacity to—!”

“Sit down, Mr. Vance, or you will be held in direct contempt of court,” Judge Henderson interrupted with icy authority, banging his gavel down hard.

“The court has already reviewed the medical records and the master override logs retrieved from your private office safe. Your game is over, Julian.”

Julian slowly sank back down into his chair, his face turning pale with rage as he realized every single escape route had been permanently sealed.
