Chapter 11 - The Siege of the Estate

The wailing shriek of the estate’s automated security sirens shattered the peaceful afternoon silence, echoing sharply across the whispering pine forests surrounding the Moretti compound. Inside her residential suite, Isabelle startled awake from a light sleep, her hand flying instinctively to her heavy, thirty-four-week pregnant stomach as the blaring alarms vibrated through the reinforced glass windows. The heavy oak doors swung open instantly, and Dr. Harrison rushed into the room, his face pale and etched with panic.
"Isabelle, we have to move right now," Dr. Harrison urged, grabbing her arm gently to help her off the bed. "The estate is under external tactical attack. Boss Moretti has ordered an immediate emergency evacuation to the secondary safe house."
"An attack?" Isabelle gasped, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs as the terrifying memories of the Starlight Diner rushed back into sharp focus. "Is Vincent... where is Vincent?"
"He's securing the perimeter," Dr. Harrison answered urgently, guiding her quickly down the private residential corridor toward the subterranean elevator shaft that led directly to the armored vehicle bays. "We need to get underground before the main gate perimeter is breached."
Before they could reach the elevator doors, a deafening explosion rocked the upper eastern wing of the mansion. The concussive blast blew the reinforced double doors off their hinges, sending a massive wave of superheated air, splintered wood, and choking white plaster dust hurtling down the hallway. Isabelle shrieked, stumbling backward as Dr. Harrison threw his arms over his head to shield them both from the flying debris.
Through the thick smoke filling the hallway, three heavily armored operatives clad in advanced tactical Directorate gear and wearing matte-black ballistic helmets emerged from the stairwell, automatic rifles raised and sweeping the corridor with lethal efficiency.
"Target package spotted!" one of the operatives barked through an encrypted comms unit, stepping forward to block their escape route. "Secure the woman and terminate any resistance!"
Dr. Harrison instinctively threw himself in front of Isabelle, raising his hands. "Wait! You can't—"
A silenced weapon cracked sharply, and Dr. Harrison gasped, his eyes widening in shock as he slumped forward onto the hardwood floor, motionless.
"No!" Isabelle screamed in absolute horror, dropping to her knees beside the fallen doctor as hot tears flooded her eyes.
Before the Directorate operatives could grab her arms, a sudden, blinding burst of automatic gunfire erupted from the opposite end of the hallway. Dominic and two elite Moretti enforcers rounded the corner, their tactical rifles unleashing a devastating wall of lead that caught the leading Directorate operative square in the chest, dropping him instantly. The remaining two operatives scrambled for cover behind the shattered pillars, returning fire with frantic bursts of suppressing ammunition.
"Get down, Isabelle!" Dominic roared over the deafening noise, firing a controlled burst that pinned the enemy operatives behind a heavy oak sideboard.
Before Isabelle could move, a heavy, muscular arm wrapped around her waist from behind, lifting her bodily off the floor with familiar, protective strength. She looked up through the swirling smoke and saw Vincent’s soot-stained, fiercely determined face looking down at her.
"I've got you," Vincent whispered fiercely, his dark eyes burning with lethal fury. "I am not going to let them touch you."
Vincent shielded her body completely with his own broad frame, firing his tactical rifle with lethal precision around the corner of the corridor, dropping the remaining Directorate operatives with two clean headshots that ended the skirmish in seconds.

"Dominic, secure the perimeter and prep the armored transport in the bunker," Vincent ordered crisply, his chest heaving as he held Isabelle tightly against him. "The estate has been compromised beyond repair. We are falling back to the northern woods."
"Understood, Boss!" Dominic shouted, covering their rear as Vincent carried Isabelle swiftly down the emergency staircase toward the subterranean bunker, leaving the burning wreckage of the Moretti estate behind them as the final battle for their survival began.
