Chapter 9 - The Final Echo of the Past

While we were celebrating new life in the hospital room, miles away in the sterile, windowless intake room of the state penitentiary, another chapter was coming to a very different kind of close.

Ryan Vance sat on a metal stool behind a thick glass partition, staring at the visitor on the other side.

It wasn't a high-powered business partner.

It wasn't an influential lawyer.

It was a debt collector from one of his high-interest commercial lenders, holding a final notice of total asset forfeiture.

“Mr. Vance,” the collector said through the intercom speaker, his voice flat and businesslike. “Every corporate account has been liquidated, every personal vehicle has been impounded, and your mother’s estate has been seized by the state to cover the legal fees and restitution orders.”

Ryan stared through the glass, his hands trembling as he realized the absolute, total devastation of the empire he had tried to build on manipulation and cruelty.

He had tried to steal a home, a life, and a family, and in the end, he had lost everything—his freedom, his dignity, and his humanity.

On the other side of the glass, Ryan opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.

There was nothing left to say.

The game was over.
