Chapter 5 - The 1.2 Million Dollar Illusion

Austin’s head snapped back toward me, panic clawing at his throat. He opened his mouth, trying to find some shred of his former arrogance, but nothing came out except a pathetic, ragged breath.
"You... you can't touch that money," Austin stammered, his voice cracking desperately. "That... that's our joint savings! Half of that legally belongs to me under marital asset division!"
I let out a calm, relaxed sigh, motioning for Jonathan to present the final financial statement.
Jonathan slid a certified bank ledger onto the metal hospital tray right in front of Austin’s face. "Mr. Parker, marital asset division applies to marital funds. However, forensic accounting audits conducted over the past three hours reveal a fascinating pattern in your personal banking history."
Jonathan pointed a crisp, manicured finger at the highlighted line items on the paper. "For the past two years, while you were publicly boasting about your high-flying Director salary, your personal recreational accounts—including your underground stock speculations, private club memberships, and high-risk speculative investments—were bleeding cash at an alarming rate. To cover your massive personal debts and margin calls, you systematically siphoned nearly 800,000 dollars from corporate contingency funds and subsidiary client accounts."
Austin’s face turned the color of a ghost. He staggered backward, his hands flying to his head. "That... that was hidden! How did you... nobody was supposed to notice those transfers!"
"Nothing escapes a Level-1 corporate audit authorized by the board chairwoman," Jonathan replied smoothly, closing the folder with a sharp snap. "Furthermore, the 1.2 million dollars sitting in your primary joint account was never your money to begin with. Those funds were deposited via automatic monthly wire transfers from the Chairwoman’s private philanthropic trust to ensure household stability while she observed your behavior during your probationary marriage test."
I looked at Austin, my expression hardening into ice. "Yes, Austin. When we first met, I wanted to see if you loved me for who I was, or if you were simply looking for a quiet, submissive trophy wife to manage your household while you climbed the corporate ladder. Unfortunately, you failed every single test of character, empathy, and basic human decency. And the moment you broke my leg—metaphorically through your emotional abuse, and literally by driving me to a breaking point—you signed your own professional and financial death warrant."
Brenda shrieked, losing whatever remaining composure she had left. She lunged forward, pointing a shaking, manicured finger directly at my face.
"You deceitful, manipulative bitch!" Brenda screamed, her voice echoing down the sterile hospital hallway, causing two security guards to immediately step through the doorway. "You trapped my son! You set him up! You ruined our family over a silly phone call about cooking dinner?!"
"No, Brenda," I replied calmly, not even flinching at her outburst. "I didn't ruin your son. I simply stopped protecting him from his own greed, incompetence, and cruelty. He ruined himself."
I turned my gaze back to Jonathan. "Have the legal team formally file the divorce papers with immediate emergency injunctions. Freeze every single personal asset, credit card, corporate expense account, and vehicle key currently in Austin Parker's possession. Ensure he is locked out of every Apex Logistics facility worldwide effective immediately."
"Right away, Madam Chairwoman," Jonathan said, bowing deeply once more before turning on his heel. He signaled the two security guards with a subtle nod.
The guards stepped forward, grabbing Austin firmly by both arms. Austin didn't fight back. All the fight, all the arrogance, all the toxic narcissism that had fueled his tyranny for years had completely drained out of him. He stood there like a hollow shell, his knees shaking, staring blankly at the floor as the guards began escorting him out of the emergency room.

As they dragged him past the doorway, Austin lifted his head, his tear-filled eyes locking onto mine one last time with a look of helpless, pathetic pleading.
I didn't blink. I didn't look away. I simply raised my hand, gave him a small, polite wave goodbye, and watched as the doors swung shut, sealing his fate forever.
