Chapter 2 - The Fallout of Disclosure

The silence that followed the bride’s final words was heavier than any physical weight could ever be. For a few agonizing seconds, no one in the grand wedding hall moved, as if a single breath might shatter the reality they had all just witnessed. The recorded voice of the groom still seemed to echo off the high marble arches, a ghostly remainder of a betrayal that had almost succeeded. Victoria stood tall, her hands wrapped tightly around the small, trembling fingers of Lily, the little girl who had just rewritten the course of her entire life.

Julian’s face twisted into an expression that shifted rapidly from panic to venomous rage. He took a heavy step forward, his expensive patent leather shoes squeaking sharply against the polished white runway. "Victoria, you cannot be serious! You are going to believe a homeless, lying brat over me?" his voice boomed, though it lacked its usual polished confidence. He looked around the room, desperately seeking an ally among the rows of wealthy, influential guests who had just a moment ago been smiling at him. But the elite social circles of the city were notoriously fickle; the moment a scandal broke, everyone instinctively withdrew to protect themselves.

Her father, Arthur Vance, was the first to break the paralysis that had gripped the front row. The aging billionaire, whose health had been failing for the past year, gripped his cane so hard his knuckles turned white. He didn't look at Julian; instead, his sharp, protective eyes were fixed entirely on his only daughter. "Security," Arthur’s voice was low, but it possessed a commanding power that immediately cut through the rising murmurs of the crowd. "Get this pathetic excuse of a man out of my sight before I ensure he never works in this industry, or any other, ever again."

Two massive security guards, who had originally been moving to intercept Lily, shifted their weight effortlessly. Their expressions were completely blank as they closed the distance between themselves and Julian, their large frames imposing. Julian realized in that exact moment that the power dynamics had completely shifted, leaving him utterly defenseless. He tried to pull away, but one of the guards grabbed his upper arm with a grip that looked like vice-grips. "Let go of me! Do you have any idea who I am? Victoria, tell them! We are supposed to be married today!" he screamed, his polished facade entirely gone.

Victoria didn't answer him, nor did she look back as they dragged him down the long aisle toward the exit doors. Instead, she slowly knelt on the pristine white carpet, her expensive designer gown pooling around her like a cloud of silk. She looked into Lily’s terrified, wide eyes, noting the tear tracks that had smudged the dirt on the child's face. "You are safe now, sweetie. Nobody is going to hurt you, and nobody is going to ignore you anymore," Victoria whispered, her voice remarkably steady. She took the cracked, old digital camera from the girl's shaking hands and handed it to her father's personal assistant, who had rushed over.

"Take this to our legal team immediately," Victoria instructed, not letting a single drop of emotion ruin her professional tone. "Make sure every single file on that memory card is backed up to three separate cloud servers before the hour ends." The assistant nodded quickly, understanding the immense gravity of the evidence that had just saved the Vance family empire. Meanwhile, the wedding guests were beginning to whisper loudly, the sound resembling a swarm of angry hornets. Victoria stood back up, took a deep breath, and prepared herself to face the immediate media storm that was bound to follow.
