Chapter 12 - The Unexpected Alliance and the Coalition of Betrayed Women

I gestured toward the two wooden stools sitting near the front display window, inviting Victoria to take a seat while I washed the clay dust from my hands in the studio sink.
"If this is about Mark's corporate accounts or his pending bankruptcy, I already secured full transfer of our primary assets and the business shares through the legal agreements he signed in his office," I said.
Victoria smiled, a sharp, intelligent expression that crinkled the corners of her eyes as she unclasped the manila folder and slid several printed documents across the work table.
"This isn't about Mark's dwindling assets, Danielle. This is about Chloe Vance," Victoria stated calmly, watching my reaction closely to gauge my familiarity with the name.
My posture stiffened slightly at the mention of the platinum-blonde woman who had worn my husband's heart—and his crimson lingerie—on that surreal morning porch.
"What about Chloe? As far as I know, she's currently panicking over her own involvement in Apex Holdings and wondering if federal prosecutors are coming for her next," I replied coldly.
"Not quite," Victoria corrected, sliding a certified birth certificate and a copy of a newborn trust fund document across the table toward me.
"Three days ago, right after Mark signed over his corporate shares to you, Chloe packed up her designer luggage, emptied the remainder of her personal accounts, and completely vanished."
I looked down at the documents, scanning the legal text until my eyes landed on a clause establishing a multi-million-dollar trust fund for an infant named Leo Vance-Miller, funded by offshore accounts.
"She took the baby and ran?" I asked, a mixture of disbelief and grim amusement washing over me as I realized the house of cards had completely collapsed on all fronts.
"She didn't just run, Danielle. She left Mark a digital goodbye message informing him that she was taking the remaining hidden capital and fleeing the jurisdiction to avoid federal prosecution," Victoria explained.
"And why are you telling me this, Ms. Sterling? How does Chloe's disappearance concern my legal standing?" I asked, crossing my arms over my canvas apron.
"Because Chloe didn't just steal offshore funds from Julian's syndicate; she also embezzled capital from several venture capital firms where Mark was acting as a silent proxy," Victoria revealed.
"And those venture capital firms are looking to pin the entire multi-million-dollar fraud scheme directly on Mark Miller, leaving him facing decades in federal prison with zero legal defense," she added.
A cold, calculating satisfaction settled deep in my chest as I realized that Mark was finally reaping the exact harvest of deceit, greed, and cowardice he had sown for years.
"Mark made his bed when he decided to build a double life on my back. Whatever federal prison sentence he receives is a consequence of his own making, not my concern," I stated firmly.
Victoria nodded approvingly, sliding the manila folder closed and slipping a professional business card across the table into my palm.

"I respect that position entirely, Danielle. But if federal prosecutors subpoena your testimony regarding Mark's financial concealment, my firm would like to ensure your absolute protection," Victoria said.
"Keep my number handy. The storm isn't completely over yet, and having proper legal armor while the remaining debris falls is going to be essential for your peace of mind," she advised.
