Chapter 12 - A New Foundation

The evening air was crisp and clear as I stepped out of the Veyra Tower lobby into the courtyard below. The massive LED screens mounted on the facade of the building displayed our company logo shining in brilliant blue light against the twilight sky—a symbol of independence, innovation, and unwavering strength.
I stopped for a moment near the cascading marble fountain by the entrance, listening to the steady, rhythmic sound of falling water.
My phone buzzed in my pocket. It was a brief, automated notification from our legal team confirming that Adrian Cole’s formal arraignment had been scheduled for Monday morning, with no bail granted due to extreme flight risk.
I didn't feel anger, or satisfaction, or even vindication. I felt only a profound, quiet peace.
For months, people had whispered behind my back, assuming that my success was borrowed, that my position was fragile, and that my life was something to be managed by others. They had looked at my thirty-seven percent and believed they held the entire equation in their hands, failing to account for the deeper foundations built on loyalty, trust, and truth.
I turned my back on the shimmering towers of the financial district and began walking down the stone pathway toward the city streets, my footsteps falling with a steady, unyielding rhythm.
The wedding ring I had left on the altar was long gone, melted down or locked away in some forgotten evidence locker, but I didn't miss it. My hands were unburdened, my code was secure, and my future belonged entirely to me.
