Chapter 7 - The Confession Trail

Evelyn’s attorney stood up, raising a hand in a gesture of surrender. “My client is prepared to discuss a structured settlement—surrendering all remaining board seats and equity shares in exchange for immunity from federal wire fraud prosecution.”

“There will be no immunity negotiations,” I said instantly, not breaking eye contact with Evelyn. “Every single transaction, every forged document, every unauthorized server breach executed by your family trust is already logged, timestamped, and transmitted to the Department of Justice’s financial crimes division.”

Adrian slumped forward, burying his face in his hands as the full weight of his mother’s ambition and his own cowardice crashed down around him. He had traded his career, his reputation, and the only person who had ever genuinely believed in his potential for a hollow promise of corporate supremacy.

“You’ve ruined us,” Evelyn whispered, her voice trembling with cold rage as she stared up at me. “You think you’ve won, Mara, but Veyra will burn to the ground without our investor connections. Horizon Corp will crush you in the open market.”

“Horizon Corp is already investigating your offshore accounts for money laundering,” I replied smoothly. “Your partners dropped you the moment the federal subpoenas hit their desks this morning. You’re entirely alone, Evelyn.”

With a sharp motion of my hand, I signaled the security guards to escort them out of the building. Richard Vance gathered his briefcase with shaking hands and hurried out behind Evelyn and Adrian, neither of them daring to look back as the heavy oak doors closed behind them for the final time.

The conference room emptied until only Naomi, Julian, and I remained standing around the obsidian table. The city lights outside were glowing brighter now as dusk settled over the skyline, casting long, clean shadows across the polished floor.

“It’s over,” Naomi said softly, exhaling a long breath.

“No,” I corrected, looking out the glass window toward the horizon where Veyra’s massive server towers blinked with steady, pulsing blue lights. “It’s just beginning.”
