Chapter 3 - The Poisonous Matriarch

“This is MY house!” Victoria shrieked, her voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings. “My family built this estate! You cannot kick me out of my own home!” Nathan stood firm, acting as a human shield between his mother and his wife. “Actually, you transferred the deed to me three years ago for tax purposes,” Nathan stated coldly. “Legally, this is my house.” “And you have just assaulted my wife.” Victoria’s face drained of color. For decades, she had used her wealth and status to manipulate everyone around her. She had controlled Nathan’s father until the day he died. She thought she could control Nathan, too. “You are choosing this... this peasant over your own flesh and blood?” “She is a gold digger, Nathan! She only wants the trust fund!” Elena let out a sob, burying her face into her baby’s warm head. She didn't care about the money. She never had. She just wanted a safe family. “I’m calling the police, Mother,” Nathan said, pulling his phone from his pocket. Victoria’s eyes widened in sheer panic. “Nathan, don't be ridiculous! Think of the scandal!” “The press will have a field day! Our stock prices will plummet!” “I don't care about the stocks,” Nathan replied, dialing the numbers. “I care about my son. And I care about my wife.” Realizing she had lost control, Victoria lunged forward. She tried to grab the phone from Nathan’s hand, acting like a cornered animal. Nathan easily sidestepped her, catching her wrist in a firm grip. “Do not touch me,” he warned. “And never, ever come near my family again.” Victoria yanked her arm back, her chest heaving. She looked at Elena with a gaze so full of venom it made Elena’s blood run cold. “This isn't over,” Victoria hissed. “I have the best lawyers in the country. I will take that baby from you.” “You will be left with absolutely nothing.” She turned on her heel and stormed down the hallway. But Elena knew Victoria wasn't making empty threats. The real war was just beginning.
