Chapter 6 - The Husband's Intervention

“Take one more step toward my wife, and I will destroy your career, Marcus.” Nathan stood in the doorway, breathing heavily. He had run all the way from his car, leaving the door wide open in the driveway. Behind him stood two men of his own. They weren't just lawyers; they were federal investigators. Marcus turned around, losing a bit of his smug confidence. “Nathan, be reasonable. We have a judge's order.” “Signed by Judge Harrison, correct?” Nathan asked, walking slowly into the room. “Yes,” Marcus replied, narrowing his eyes. Nathan pulled out a thick manila envelope and threw it onto the coffee table. “That’s fascinating. Because Judge Harrison is currently being detained by the FBI.” Marcus froze. “What?” the lawyer stammered. “Wire fraud, bribery, and corruption,” Nathan explained, his voice echoing with absolute authority. “Did you really think I wouldn't investigate the judge who magically signed a custody order in under 24 hours?” Nathan walked over to Elena and wrapped a protective arm around her and the baby. “My team found the wire transfers from my mother’s offshore accounts to Harrison’s brother.” “Your court order is completely invalid.” “And furthermore, Marcus, you are listed as a co-conspirator.” The color completely drained from the lawyer's face. The CPS agents looked at each other in confusion, stepping back from Elena. “Sir, we were just told—” “You were manipulated,” Nathan interrupted them, speaking firmly but calmly. “My mother fabricated evidence to steal my child.” “You can leave now, or you can stay and answer to the federal agents standing behind me.” The CPS workers didn't need to be told twice. They hurried out the door. Marcus stood there, trembling. His lucrative career, his reputation, everything was crumbling in seconds. “Where is she?” Nathan demanded. “Where is my mother?”
