Chapter 7 - The Ultimate Reversal

David stared at the photographs scattered across the bed, his face completely devoid of color. Every lie, every secret meeting, every hidden transaction was now laid bare under the harsh afternoon light. He reached out with a trembling hand, picking up one of the financial statements, his eyes scanning the numbers that proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he had been systematically draining our joint accounts to fund his double life. "Elena... you can't do this," he whispered, his voice cracking into a pathetic whine. "We can fix this. We can go to counseling. What about our life? What about everything we've built together?" He looked desperate, pathetic, and entirely small.
Victoria, realizing that David was sinking fast and had no intention of protecting her, scrambled out of bed, keeping the sheet wrapped around herself like a toga, and tried to slip past Sarah toward the door. "This is insane," Victoria snapped, her voice trembling with nervous anger. "I didn't sign up for this circus. David, you deal with your crazy wife!" But as she reached the doorway, two burly men—private investigators hired by Sarah—blocked her path, holding out their tablets displaying employment contracts, corporate compliance policies, and HR violation records from David's company. "Ms. Miller," one of them said smoothly, "we also have documentation of corporate resource misuse and conflict of interest involving you and Mr. Vance. Copies have already been forwarded to your company's board of directors and ethics committee. Your termination meeting is scheduled for nine o'clock tomorrow morning." Victoria let out a sharp gasp, her face turning chalk white as she realized her career, her reputation, and her cozy lifestyle had just evaporated in a matter of seconds.
I watched them both scramble in the wreckage of their own making, a profound sense of peace settling deep into my bones. David turned back to me, tears finally spilling over his eyelids, his hands outstretched in a desperate, last-ditch plea for mercy. "Elena, please... don't do this to us. Think of our future. Think of the family we always wanted." It was at that exact moment, watching him beg for a future he had actively worked to destroy, that I decided it was time to drop the final, heaviest bomb of all. I reached into my pocket, pulled out the pristine white envelope, and slowly withdrew the ultrasound photo. I held it up between my fingers, letting the afternoon light catch the tiny, blurred image of the new life growing inside me.
