Chapter 4 - THE FIRST DOMINO FALLS

In less than three seconds, the illusion of wealth shattered into a million digital pieces.

A soft, melodic chime echoed from the laptop speakers—the default notification sound of an automated transaction protocol shutting down.

On the screen, a series of bright green status bars instantly turned a stark, warning red.

ACCOUNT SUSPENDED. CREDIT LINE FROZEN. AUTO-PAYMENT PROTOCOL: TERMINATED.

Vivian sneered, crossing her arms tightly over her silk blouse. "What kind of cheap psychological trick is this? Do you think flashing a silly screen with red letters is going to frighten me? Call the bank, Daniel! Have her arrested for trespassing and digital harassment!"

Before Daniel could even open his mouth to reply, his high-end smartphone buzzed aggressively in his breast pocket. Then, almost instantly, a chorus of digital alerts began to chime across the room.

Bzzzz. Bzzzz. Ping! Ping!

Uncle Richard pulled out his phone, frowning. "What the hell? My corporate expense card just got declined at the restaurant downtown."

Cousin Chloe gasped, dropping her wine glass onto the table with a loud clink. "Mine too! It says 'Declined - Fraud Prevention / Limit Exceeded'! What is happening?!"

Vivian’s phone buzzed violently on the table. Slowly, with a trembling hand, she reached down and picked it up. The screen flashed a high-priority push notification from her private bank: IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED: PRIMARY CREDIT CARD DECLINED. UNPAID BALANCE DUE.

"What is this?" Vivian shrieked, her face losing its color, turning from arrogant pink to pasty white. She glared at me, her eyes wide with sudden panic. "What did you do? What did you just do?!"

I closed my laptop lid halfway, leaning against the edge of the sideboard with absolute poise.

"I didn't do anything illegal, Vivian," I replied calmly. "I simply revoked your authorization. You wanted to know who controls the money? You’re looking at her. Every single dime of credit, every mortgage subsidy, every loan extension keeping your precious lifestyle afloat was being funneled through my corporate restructuring accounts and my personal venture dividends."

Daniel dropped his head into his hands, letting out a hollow, defeated groan. He knew the truth. He had always known.

"You're lying," Vivian stammered, her voice rising an octave in sheer hysteria. "Daniel is the genius! Daniel saved us! You're just a hired hand we brought into this family!"

"Ask him," I said, pointing a finger directly at my husband. "Ask your precious golden boy who has been paying your credit card bills for the last thirty-six months. Go ahead, Daniel. Tell your mother the truth, or shall I pull up my bank statements and project them onto the dining room wall for everyone to see?"
