Chapter 6 - THE ULTIMATUM OF FREEDOM

The house of cards collapsed, leaving nothing behind except the truth.
The silence that followed was heavy, suffocating, and absolute. Eleven people stood frozen in the grand dining room, stripped of their arrogance, their wealth, and their illusions of superiority.
Cousin Chloe broke down into ugly, panicked tears, frantically calling her boyfriend to tell him their upcoming luxury vacation to Ibiza was canceled. The two uncles began shouting at Daniel, demanding to know how much money they personally owed to external creditors now that the family subsidies had vanished.
Daniel stood amidst the wreckage, completely paralyzed. He looked like a stranger—a man I had foolishly loved, supported, and protected, only to find out he was willing to sacrifice my dignity to appease his mother's ego.
I walked over to my chair, picked up my designer handbag, and slung it casually over my shoulder. Then, I turned back to look at the gathering one last time.
"The locks on the master estate accounts are permanent," I announced clearly, loud enough for everyone to hear. "As of right now, I am officially resigning from my position as the Mercer family's financial restructuring manager."
"Emma, wait!" Daniel cried out, taking a desperate step toward me. "You can't just leave! We're married! We're a family!"
I stopped at the doorway, looking back at him with absolute indifference.
"We were never a family, Daniel," I said evenly. "You were just a parasite, and your mother was the disease. Enjoy your mansion. Enjoy your lifestyle. Let's see how long you survive without me holding up the sky."
Without waiting for another word, I turned on my heel and walked out of the dining room.

Behind me, I could hear Vivian screaming in absolute hysterics, the uncles shouting curses at Daniel, and the chaotic sounds of a collapsing dynasty imploding under the weight of its own fake prestige.
I walked out the front doors into the crisp night air, pulling out my phone as the heavy oak doors clicked shut behind me for the very last time.
