Chapter 10 - The Confrontation

Nora's conference room was tense enough to snap a steel cable.

My father arrived first, furious and demanding answers. My mother trailed behind him like a frightened ghost.

Grant arrived last, looking like he hadn't slept in a week. He wouldn't look at our father.

I sat at the head of the table. Julian and Nora stood on either side of me.

"What is the meaning of this, Evelyn?" my father demanded, checking his watch. "I have a company to run."

"You don't have a company, Dad," I said clearly. "You have a Ponzi scheme."

The room went dead silent.

I nodded to Julian, who handed out thick folders to everyone at the table.

"These are the files from your hidden server," I said. "And the banking records from the safe deposit box. It documents four million dollars in stolen client funds."

My mother let out a small gasp and covered her mouth.

"You little thief," my father snarled, lunging forward.

Julian stepped in front of me, putting a firm hand on my father's chest and pushing him back.

"Sit down, Arthur," Nora commanded coldly. "Or I call security."

My father sank back into his chair, breathing heavily.

"And you, Grant," I said, turning to my brother. "Turn to page four."

Grant flipped the page. He stared at the registration documents for Apex Holdings.

"Is this true?" Grant asked, his voice shaking. He looked at our father. "You put my name on the shell company? You made me the fall guy?"

"It was for tax purposes!" my father deflected, sweating now.

"It was a trap," Grant yelled, standing up. "You threw me under the bus!"

"I gave you everything!" my father roared back. "I paid for your lifestyle! You owed me!"

"Enough," I said, my voice cutting through the shouting.

Everyone stopped and looked at me.

"Here is what happens next," I said, folding my hands over the polished table.
