Chapter 10 - Reigning Together

6 months later, the Valentino penthouse looked entirely different.
The heavy, suffocating silence that had once defined the grand rooms was gone, replaced by the soft hum of classical music, the scent of fresh flowers, and the occasional warm laughter echoing down the marble hallways. The gilded cage had finally transformed into a real home.
I sat at the mahogany desk in the library—my desk now, shared equally with the man who owned my heart. Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, warming the Persian rugs and illuminating the vibrant books I had finally arranged according to my own whimsical taste rather than anxiety.
Heavy footsteps approached the doorway, and a pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around my waist from behind, pulling me backward into a warm, solid embrace. Marcus rested his chin gently on my shoulder, inhaling the scent of my hair with a contented sigh.
“What are you working on, regina?” he murmured, his deep voice vibrating against my spine.
“Reviewing the charitable foundation accounts,” I replied, leaning back comfortably against his chest. “We’ve successfully funded the new community center in the harbor district, and your mother’s health clinic is fully operational.”
Marcus chuckled, pressing a warm, lingering kiss to the side of my neck. “You manage the syndicate’s charity work better than I manage my shipping empire. The capos are starting to think you’re the real boss.”
“They aren't wrong,” I teased, turning in his arms to face him.

Marcus smiled, his storm-gray eyes softening with a deep, unbreakable devotion that still took my breath away every single day. The scars on his forearms and the dangerous aura of the mafia boss were still there—he was still the most feared man in the country, the undisputed ruler of the underworld. But to me, he was simply my husband, my protector, and the man who had torn down his own fortress just to let me in.
He leaned down, capturing my lips in a slow, sweet kiss that made the rest of the world fade away into nothingness. We had survived the debts, the shadows, the blood, and the silence. And as we stood together looking out over the city that bowed at our feet, I knew that no matter what storms lay ahead, we would face them side by side, forever unbroken.
