Chapter 8 - The New Horizon

Six months later, the morning sun painted the sky in shades of bruised peach and gold. Emma stood on the porch of a small, unpretentious house overlooking the Pacific coast. The floors here were made of pine and creaked when she walked, and the kitchen smelled of sea salt and coffee—the scent of real, uncurated life.
Jonathan sat on the steps nearby, a glass of iced tea in his hand, watching the horizon. "Do you ever think about him?" he asked, his voice low and respectful.

"Sometimes," Emma said, her gaze fixed on the waves. "I think about how small his world truly was. He thought that by owning everything, he was free. He never understood that the only thing worth owning is your own peace of mind. I’m not angry anymore, Jonathan. Anger requires me to still be connected to him. I’m just... grateful."
She looked at her hand. Her finger was bare. It didn't feel heavy anymore; it felt light and capable. The story of the 'perfect wife' had reached its final page, and in its place, a new story was beginning—one where she didn't have to apologize for existing, and where the loudest sound in the room was her own voice, finally free. She turned away from the balcony and walked into her kitchen, ready to start a day that belonged entirely to her. She opened the window, letting the ocean breeze fill the room, and for the first time in her life, she felt absolutely, unequivocally whole. The past was a closed book, and the future was a vast, unwritten ocean, waiting for her to set sail.
