Chapter 4 - The Shadow War
The days following the dinner were marked by a frantic, high-stakes game of psychological warfare. Daniel moved from disbelief to rage, and finally to a calculated, dangerous desperation. He cornered Emma in the study late one evening, his face flushed, his movements erratic. He paced the floor like a caged predator, throwing accusations at her like poison-tipped arrows.
"You think you’re so clever, don't you?" he hissed, leaning over her, his hands slamming into the desk. "You think you can just walk away with the keys to the firm? I built this empire. I made you. Without me, you are nothing but a woman with a ruined reputation in a city that forgets people like you in a heartbeat."
Emma remained seated, her posture impeccable, her eyes fixed on a book she wasn't actually reading. "I was a woman with a ruined reputation while I was with you, Daniel," she replied, her voice dangerously calm. "At least now, the ruin is my own. I have spent months documenting your arrogance. I have the ledgers, the offshore transfers, and the recordings of your 'jokes.' Every time you belittled me, I was learning how you thought. You taught me how to be cold, Daniel. You just forgot that you were the one who had to suffer the consequences."

Daniel grabbed a glass vase from the side table and hurled it against the wall, the ceramic shattering into a thousand white shards. "You're delusional if you think you can win this!"
"I’m not trying to win, Daniel," she said, finally looking up at him, her gaze so hollow it seemed to drain the energy from the room. "I’m trying to finish. And we are very close to the end." She stood up, walking toward the door without giving him another glance. She didn't flinch as the door slammed behind her. She knew that behind his bluster, he was terrified. He had never seen her as a strategist, and that was the mistake that would be his downfall. Every time he threatened her, she felt stronger, her resolve hardening into something indestructible.
