Chapter 3 - Midnight In The Alley: Confronting The Iron Crest Group

The rain-slicked asphalt of the Lower East Side alleyway gleamed under the harsh, flickering yellow light of a broken streetlamp, casting long, distorted shadows across the brick walls.
Viktor Vance’s sleek, bulletproof black Maybach glided silently into the alley, its headlights cutting through the swirling mist and illuminating three burly men leaning against a battered Ford pickup.
The men were collecting protection money from a row of small, family-owned storefronts, their heavy leather jackets soaked with rain and their faces twisted into ugly scowls of casual malice.
As the Maybach’s rear door glided open, Viktor stepped out onto the wet pavement with absolute calm, his tailored wool coat sweeping around his legs like a shroud.
Kaelen emerged from the front passenger seat silently, his immense bulk instantly dwarfing the three thugs who stood blinking in shock against the sudden intrusion.
“Who the hell do you think you are, parking your fancy German garbage in our—,” the lead thug started, reaching instinctively for the heavy brass knuckles in his coat pocket.
Before the thug could finish his sentence, Kaelen moved with terrifying, blinding speed, closing the distance between them in a fraction of a second.
With a single, brutal palm strike to the man’s chest, Kaelen sent the thug crashing backward into a row of metal garbage cans with a deafening, metallic crash.
The other two enforcers drew switchblades from their pockets, lunging forward in a desperate coordinated attack, but Viktor didn't even flinch or blink an eye.
Viktor sidestepped the first attacker’s wild slash with casual grace, grabbed the man’s wrist with his tattooed hand, and twisted it sharply until bone snapped with a sickening pop.
As the second thug hesitated in sheer terror, Viktor delivered a devastating roundhouse kick directly to the man’s jaw, knocking him out cold before his body even hit the ground.
In less than ten seconds, the entire street-level enforcement team of the Iron Crest Group was dismantled, writhing in pain on the filthy, rain-soaked pavement.
Viktor calmly adjusted his cuffs, stepped over the groaning lead thug, and crouched down until he was eye-level with the terrified, bleeding enforcer.
“Tell Marcus Thorne that Viktor Vance stopped by to discuss a very specific debt collection,” Viktor whispered smoothly, his voice carrying the chill of an impending execution.
“W-what debt? Thorne doesn’t owe you anything!” the thug wheezed, clutching his broken wrist as rain mixed with blood across his bruised face.
“He’s extorting a young college student named Maya Lin,” Viktor stated plainly, his dark eyes boring into the man’s soul. “And mathematically speaking, Marcus’s interest rates are entirely unconstitutional.”
The thug’s eyes widened in sheer panic as he realized the terrifying connection Viktor had just drawn out of thin air in the middle of a dark alley.
“I-I’ll tell him! Just don’t kill me, Mr. Vance! Please!” the thug sobbed, curling into a fetal position against the brick wall of the alleyway.
Viktor stood up slowly, brushing a nonexistent speck of dust off the sleeve of his expensive wool coat, completely unfazed by the pathetic display of raw human fear.
“Tell Marcus I’ll be dropping by his downtown headquarters tomorrow afternoon at two o’clock sharp,” Viktor instructed Kaelen, turning back toward the idling Maybach.
“Should I bring the full tactical team or just the standard enforcement detail?” Kaelen asked casually, opening the rear door for his boss.
May you like
“Just you and me, Kaelen,” Viktor replied with a cold, confident smirk as he slid back into the warm, leather-lined interior of the luxury vehicle.
“It’s time to teach these amateurs how real business is conducted in this city.”
