Chapter 14 - The Ultimate Confrontation

The executive boardroom of Quantum Grid Technologies on the forty-fifth floor of downtown San Francisco overlooked the sweeping expanse of the bay.
Marcus Thorne sat behind a massive glass desk, swirling a glass of aged single-malt scotch, a smug grin plastered across his face.
The heavy oak doors of the boardroom suddenly burst open with a deafening crash.
Two private security guards flew backward into the room, collapsing onto the imported Italian carpet as Miller stepped through the threshold, clearing the path.
Richard Hawthorne walked into the room.
His stride was measured, cold, and carried the terrifying momentum of an apex predator cornering its prey.
Marcus stood up quickly, his smug smile faltering slightly as he met Richard’s lethal gaze.
"Richard? To what do I owe the unexpected pleasure?" Marcus stammered, attempting to regain his corporate composure.
"You're financing Robert Vance's fraudulent custody suit," Richard stated flatly, closing the distance between them until he stood towering over the glass desk.
Marcus scoffed, crossing his arms defensively.
"That’s a wild accusation, Hawthorne."
"Can you prove a financial link between my corporation and a European diplomat?"
Richard pulled a matte-black encrypted data drive from his pocket and tossed it onto the glass desk.
The drive slid across the smooth surface and stopped right against Marcus’s scotch glass.
"Emily spent the last twenty minutes decrypting the transaction hashes," Richard said coldly.
"The three million dollars wired to Robert Vance originated from a subsidiary account registered in the Cayman Islands under your mother's maiden name."
"Not only that..."
Richard tapped his wristwatch, projecting a holographic architectural schematic into the center of the room.
"Your company has been trying to reverse-engineer my Project Aegis defense algorithms for eight months."
"You thought that if Robert could force a custody crisis, I would be distracted by family court long enough for your corporate spies to breach my core servers."
Marcus’s face drained of color.
The arrogant facade vanished entirely, replaced by the panicked realization of a man caught red-handed in federal felony conspiracy.
"You can't prove intent," Marcus hissed, his voice dropping into a desperate whisper.
"If I go down for corporate espionage, I'll take your entire supply chain down with me in the antitrust hearings!"
"You won't have a supply chain left to defend," Richard replied with chilling calm.
"Because while I was walking through these doors, Emily executed a remote neutralization protocol on your primary servers."
Marcus’s eyes widened in absolute horror. He lunged for his desk phone, frantically pressing the intercom button.
"IT! Security! Status report on the core grid!"
The intercom speaker crackled with static before a panicked voice replied:
"Sir! All primary servers are locked! A hostile cryptographic override has wiped our entire database!"
"Every patent, every client ledger, every defense contract... it's all gone!"
Marcus stared at Richard in utter disbelief, his hands trembling violently.
"You... you destroyed us."
"I didn't destroy you, Marcus," Richard said quietly, turning toward the door.
May you like
"You destroyed yourself the moment you decided to touch my family."
"The federal marshals are waiting in your lobby."
