Chapter 7 - The Shadows of the Gala

Just outside the heavy mahogany doors of the grand ballroom, Leo took a deep breath. He could hear Julian's voice. The arrogant, slick tone of the man who had stolen his life and caged his soulmate. A memory flashed in Leo's mind—the night of the crash. Julian standing over him in the rain, kicking him in the ribs as he lay bleeding on the pavement, while his men dragged an unconscious Elena away. “You’re a nobody, Leo,” Julian had whispered that night. “She belongs to the elite. And you belong in the dirt.”
Leo opened his eyes. The anger inside him was a living, breathing fire. Two massive security guards stood by the ballroom doors, crossing their arms as they saw the rugged, battered man approaching. "Sir, you need to turn around," the first guard barked, reaching into his jacket for his weapon. Leo didn't stop walking. He dodged the first guard's grab, landing a devastating hook to his jaw. The second guard lunged, but Leo ducked under, throwing the man into the heavy wooden doors. The impact caused the doors to shudder. Leo picked up his duffel bag, adjusted his jacket, and looked at the grand entrance. It was time to wake up the ghosts.
