Chapter 15 - The Vow Beneath The Stars

The following autumn, exactly one year to the day since the cold morning when three-year-old Sophie had approached the head of the dining table and declared her innocent vow, the Romano estate hosted a celebration unlike anything Westchester County had ever seen.
The heavy wrought-iron gates were swung wide open, welcoming hundreds of guests, community leaders, foundation beneficiaries, and close friends from across the country.
Yet the ceremony itself took place in the most intimate setting possible: the newly restored glass atrium, surrounded by blooming white camellias and thousands of twinkling fairy lights.
There were no corporate press cameras, no paparazzi helicopters circling overhead, and no cold corporate handshakes.
There was only family.
Isabella stood by the altar as the maid of honor, wearing an elegant emerald-silk gown, her eyes shining with tears of absolute joy as she watched her younger sister walk down the stone aisle.
Clara wore a breathtaking ivory lace wedding dress, her chestnut hair styled in soft waves adorned with a delicate circlet of fresh white blossoms.
Waiting for her at the end of the aisle stood Alessandro.
He wore a classic black tuxedo, his tall, imposing frame softened entirely by the radiant, unwavering love shining in his dark eyes.
Standing right beside him, serving as the official flower girl in a miniature ivory dress that matched her mother's, was four-year-old Sophie.
As Clara reached the altar, Alessandro gently took her hand, his fingers fitting seamlessly against hers.
The minister smiled warmly, beginning the ceremony, but before he could even reach the traditional vows, Sophie stepped forward from between them.
She clutched a small velvet ring pillow in both hands, holding it up high with absolute determination.
"You forgot the most important part!" Sophie announced loudly to the entire assembly, her clear voice echoing through the glass atrium.
A wave of affectionate laughter rippled through the gathered guests.
Alessandro dropped down onto one knee, smiling warmly at the little girl, exactly as he had done every single day since she entered his life.
"You're right, Your Majesty," Alessandro acknowledged respectfully.
"What did we forget?"
Sophie pointed a tiny finger directly at Alessandro's chest.
"You have to promise to take care of Mommy forever and ever, and always share your pancakes with me!"
Alessandro looked from Sophie up to Clara, his expression filled with a deep, sacred devotion that transcended words.
"I promise, little bird," Alessandro said clearly, his voice carrying absolute conviction.
"To take care of your mommy, to protect our family, and to share every single pancake for the rest of my life."
Sophie nodded in absolute satisfaction, handing the velvet ring box over to Alessandro before running back to stand proudly beside her aunt Isabella.

Alessandro took the platinum band and slid it slowly onto Clara’s finger, sealing a bond that no fire, no corporate greed, and no shadow from the past could ever break again.
When Alessandro pulled her close and kissed her, the applause that rose from the atrium was not just for a wedding, but for a dynasty reborn—a home where the dark winter of grief had finally given way to an eternal, sunlit spring.
