Chapter 14 - The Unbroken Vows

The sun was beginning to dip below the Manhattan skyline, painting the sky in deep shades of amber, violet, and bruised gold.

After Elena left, the house settled back into a profound, sacred silence.

I was sitting in the master bedroom in front of the vanity mirror, brushing my hair, when Luca appeared behind me in the reflection.

He didn't say anything at first.

He simply placed his hands gently on my shoulders, leaning down to rest his chin against the crook of my neck.

“You showed her mercy,” he whispered, his breath warm against my skin.

“Mercy isn't for her,” I replied, looking up into his dark, devoted eyes in the mirror.

“It’s for us.”

“I spent seven months letting anger and betrayal dictate every breath I took.”

“I’m done letting the Sinclairs occupy space in my mind.”

Luca turned me slowly around in the chair so I was facing him directly.

He dropped to one knee on the hardwood floor—the second time in a week he had humbled himself before me, but this time, there was no panic in his eyes, only absolute, unshakable devotion.

“Isabella,” he said, his voice trembling slightly with suppressed emotion.

“We never had a proper wedding.”

“We had a rushed courthouse ceremony four years ago because my father’s health was failing and I was too proud to wait.”

“You deserved a cathedral. You deserved a lifetime of peace and protection.”

“Instead, I handed you a nightmare.”

He reached into his inner jacket pocket and pulled out a small black velvet box.

He popped the lid open with his thumb.

Inside rested a brand-new ring—not the traditional diamond solitaire from our first marriage, but a custom-crafted platinum band encrusted with delicate pink sapphires and white diamonds, sparkling brilliantly in the evening light.

“I had this designed the night we were at the boutique,” he confessed, looking up at me with tear-rimmed eyes.

“While I was sitting in the hospital waiting room, terrified that I had lost you forever.”

“Renew your vows with me, Isabella.”

“Not on paper. Not in secret.”

“In front of everyone who ever doubted us.”

“Let me take you to Italy, to the cliffs of Amalfi where we spent our first weekend together.”

“Let me spend the next fifty years proving that my vows weren't just words spoken in a quiet room.”

Tears welled in my eyes, hot and genuine, completely washing away the last lingering ghosts of the past.

I looked down at the man who had torn down an empire and braved federal fire just to find his way back to my side.

“You don't need to take me to Amalfi, Luca,” I whispered, reaching down to cup his warm, familiar face with my hands.

“We are already home.”

He slipped the sapphire band onto my ring finger, sealing it with a soft, lingering kiss against my knuckle.

Then he stood up, pulling me gently into his arms as our baby daughter slept peacefully in her crib just a few feet away.

The storm was over.

The lies had turned to dust.

And the billionaire’s severed vows were finally, perfectly, woven back together into a love that nothing in this world could ever break again.
