Chapter 10 - The Counter-Strike: Exposing the Traitors Within the Inner Circle

The pale morning light of dawn filtered through the reinforced shutters of the Ferrara safehouse, casting long, sharp lines across the hardwood floor.
Emily sat at the heavy mahogany table, staring down at a thick stack of encrypted digital drives and physical bank ledgers that Rafe had retrieved from Marcus Vance’s private estate overnight.
The evidence was damning beyond redemption.
Every wire transfer, every doctored customs manifest, every offshore account funneling millions of dollars out of Ferrara Logistics and straight into Victoria and Marcus’s private Swiss portfolios was laid bare in black and white.
“They were planning to execute a complete corporate takeover by the end of the month,” Emily said, her voice steady and clinical as she pointed to a series of notarized acquisition documents signed by Victoria. “Once New York destabilized our docking fees, Marcus was going to file for emergency bankruptcy liquidation, selling off our most profitable shipping lanes to shell companies owned by your sister.”
Santino sat across from her, sipping a cup of black espresso, his face carved from cold stone.
He had not slept a wink all night, yet his mind was sharper and more focused than it had ever been.
“Victoria always had an excessive appetite for things she didn't earn,” Santino said, his voice dangerously low. “She thought my accident on the terrace was her long-awaited coronation. She didn't realize that a king sitting in a wheelchair still holds the crown.”
He looked up, locking his piercing slate-grey eyes onto Emily.
“The quarterly executive board meeting is scheduled for 10:00 AM this morning at the main headquarters,” Santino instructed calmly. “Marcus Vance and Victoria are expecting to present their emergency restructuring plan to the senior partners and force me into medical retirement. We are going to let them walk right into the lion's den.”
“And my father’s exoneration?” Emily asked, her heart pounding with anticipation.
“We’ll read it into the permanent corporate record before we strip them of everything they own,” Santino promised, a cold, predatory smile touching his lips. “No loose ends.”
At precisely 9:55 AM, the grand marble lobby of the Ferrara headquarters on Federal Hill was bustling with high-ranking executives, regional capos, and legal counsel.
Victoria Ferrara arrived in a stunning cream-colored Chanel dress, her head held high, radiating absolute confidence.
She exchanged a triumphant, conspiratorial glance with Marcus Vance, who stood beside her holding a leather briefcase stuffed with the fraudulent bankruptcy papers.
They truly believed they had won.
They believed Emily was either dead at the bottom of the bay or fleeing for her life from Sal Moretti’s hitmen.
At 10:00 AM sharp, the heavy oak doors of the master boardroom opened.
Santino Ferrara rolled into the room, flanked by Rafe Lombardi on his left and Emily Taylor—dressed in her sharp, immaculate navy suit—walking right beside him at his right hand.
Victoria’s triumphant smile instantly froze on her face.
Color drained completely from her cheeks as she stared at Emily in sheer, unadulterated horror, realizing that her midnight assassination plot had completely and utterly failed.

“Good morning, everyone,” Santino said, his voice echoing smoothly across the stunned boardroom as he took his seat at the head of the table. “Please, take your seats. We have a very special agenda item to address before we discuss quarterly shipping revenues—an item concerning corporate integrity, embezzlement, and a great man whose name was wrongfully dragged through the mud ten years ago.”
Victoria gripped the edge of her chair so hard her knuckles turned chalk-white, while Marcus Vance began sweating profusely under his stiff collar.
