Chapter 7 - The Satellite Uplink and the Digital Strike Against the Empire

The satellite laptop hummed to life, casting a cold, greenish-blue glare across Clara’s determined face as she booted up the encrypted operating system.
Outside the cabin, the heavy rain had finally slowed to a steady, rhythmic drizzle, dripping softly from the overhanging pine branches onto the damp earth below.
Thomas stood behind her shoulder, keeping watch over the front windows while Clara inserted the digital flash drive into the side port of the computer.
"Connecting to the secure decentralized network," Clara muttered under her command, her fingers flying across the keyboard with practiced efficiency.
Within seconds, the folder containing the digitized marriage certificate, the forged death certificates, the bank statements, and the audio recordings of Eleanor’s threats materialized on the screen.
"Are you ready to hit send?" Thomas asked quietly, his hand resting reassuringly on the back of her wooden chair.
"I've been ready for three years," Clara whispered.
She clicked the master distribution script, routing the encrypted package simultaneously to three renowned investigative journalists at the New York Investigative Tribune, the state attorney general’s special corruption task force, and a federal civil rights watchdog group.
A small dialogue box popped up on the screen: UPLINK COMPLETE. 48 FILES TRANSMITTED SUCCESSFULLY.
"It’s out there," Clara breathed, leaning back in her chair with a massive wave of relief washing over her tired shoulders. "There’s no taking it back now."
Suddenly, the satellite laptop’s internal speaker emitted a sharp, high-pitched PING! indicating an incoming encrypted reply from one of the journalistic endpoints.
Clara quickly clicked open the message icon, her eyes scanning the rapid lines of text generated automatically by the reporter’s secure automated responder.
“Files received and decrypted. This is massive. We are assembling a legal team and dispatching a mobile investigative unit to your location right now. Do not move.”
"They got it," Clara whispered, looking up at Thomas with wide, astonished eyes. "The Tribune is sending a unit here to corroborate our story."
"That means Arthur and Eleanor are going to know our location within the hour," Thomas warned, his expression instantly turning serious as he grabbed his heavy jacket from the peg.
"We need to pack up the cabin, grab Lily, and move to secondary fallback position number two before their private security trackers pick up our satellite transmission frequency."
Before Clara could stand up from the desk, the low, rumbling drone of a heavy diesel engine echoed faintly through the dense pine forest outside the cabin windows.

It wasn't the sound of an ordinary highway vehicle or a reporter’s compact car; it was the unmistakable, heavy vibration of a private Sterling Estate tactical transport van.
"They found us," Clara gasped, her heart leaping into her throat as the panic threatened to paralyze her limbs.
