Chapter 6 - A Family Reborn & The Final Vote

The towering glass skyscraper of Blackwood Enterprises gleamed in the morning sun. Inside the luxurious top-floor boardroom, the atmosphere was tense. The twelve members of the board of directors sat around the massive oak table, waiting for Victor and the news of Ethan’s sudden "tragic passing." Three of the board members were secretly on Victor's payroll, fully aware of the assassination plot.
The heavy oak doors suddenly swung open, but it wasn't Victor. It was Ethan Blackwood. He looked exhausted, his expensive suit wrinkled and a bandage wrapped around his knuckles, but his eyes burned with fury. “Morning, gentlemen,” Ethan said, his voice dripping with lethal sarcasm as the corrupt members turned pale. “I apologize for being late. I had a rough night.” When one executive stammered that they thought he was dead, Ethan tossed a massive stack of folders onto the table containing police reports, wire transfers, and Victor's signed confession.
“Victor was arrested at 3:00 AM this morning for multiple counts of attempted murder, kidnapping, and corporate terrorism,” Ethan announced, slamming his hands down. “And thanks to his very detailed journals, I know exactly which three of you helped him.” Before the sweating executives could speak, the FBI walked in with federal arrest warrants. As the traitors were dragged out in handcuffs, the remaining loyal board members unanimously voted to strip Victor of all shares and permanently cement Ethan and his heirs as the sole owners.

The company was safe, and the enemies were gone. Ethan left the building and drove straight back to his estate, walking into the sunlit master bedroom. The heavy medical machines had been removed, leaving only a gentle heart monitor softly beeping. Lily was sitting on the edge of the large bed, reading a storybook out loud. Ethan stood in the doorway, watching his daughter, when suddenly the rhythmic breathing from the bed changed.
Amelia’s eyelashes began to flutter. Ethan froze, walking slowly toward the bed as Amelia let out a soft, dry gasp. Her beautiful brown eyes slowly opened, and upon seeing Ethan, a single tear rolled down her scarred cheek. “Ethan...?” she whispered. He collapsed to his knees, taking her face in his hands. “I’m here, my love. You’re safe.” Amelia’s eyes drifted to the little girl on the mattress. “Mommy?” Lily asked softly. Amelia pulled the little girl into a desperate embrace as Ethan wrapped his arms around them both. They were scarred and forever changed, but as Ethan held his wife and daughter in the morning light, he knew they were finally a family again, and nothing would ever tear them apart.
