Chapter 13 - The Broken Cookie Restored Forever

The following morning, the sun rose brilliantly over the New York harbor, bathing the Moretti estate in a wash of warm, golden light.

Inside the expansive, marble-tiled kitchen, the atmosphere was chaotic and joyful.

Maya was busy packing her bags for a trip to Europe—a fresh start funded by a generous equity stake in Moretti logistics that Alessandro had insisted upon as reparations for the nightmare she had endured.

At the center island, Sofia sat on her tall stool, banging a wooden spoon against a mixing bowl while demanding assistance from her favorite person.

“Mommy! The flour is stuck!” Sofia announced loudly, waving a tiny, white-powdered hand in the air.

Grace—who was busy pouring coffee into two mugs at the counter—froze for a fraction of a second at the word, a sudden, radiant smile breaking across her face.

She didn't correct the child.

She never would.

She walked over to the stool, tying a tiny matching white apron around Sofia’s waist, and kissed the top of the little girl’s head.

“Let me help you with that, chef,” Grace laughed warmly.

From the doorway of the kitchen, leaning casually against the archway with a cup of coffee in hand, Alessandro Moretti watched the two of them with a deep, absolute peace settling into his chest.

He took a slow sip of his coffee, feeling the last remnants of the past finally wash away into the morning light.

He wasn't just a mafia boss protecting an empire anymore.

He was a father.

He was a partner.

And he was a man who had finally found his way back home, guided through the darkest storm of his life by a four-year-old girl, a missing sister, and a broken sugar cookie that had healed them all.
