Chapter 13 - Foundations of Loyalty

The morning sun cast a golden hue across the immaculate gardens of the Moretti estate.

Inside my private study, the heavy oak desk was organized with pristine precision.

Hannah Miller sat at her new workstation near the bay window, typing up the morning shipping manifests with swift, confident keystrokes.

Her injured left leg rested comfortably on an ergonomic footrest that Daniel had ordered specifically for her.

The white compression bandages were gone, replaced by a light, flexible knee brace that allowed her full mobility.

A soft knock sounded at the study door.

"Come in," I said without looking up from my monitor.

The door opened, and Rebecca stepped inside carrying a tray with two steaming cups of Italian roast coffee.

She set one cup down on Hannah’s desk with a warm smile.

"Thank you, Miss Moretti," Hannah said, pausing her typing to accept the mug.

"Please, call me Becca," Rebecca insisted, pulling up a chair beside the desk.

"After everything you went through for my letters, we are more than colleagues."

I leaned back in my leather executive chair, watching the two of them with a quiet sense of satisfaction.

The house finally felt alive again, filled with genuine warmth instead of forced socialite pretensions.

"How is Leo doing at the Oak Brook facility?" I asked Hannah, taking a sip of my espresso.

Hannah’s face lit up with a radiant smile that completely transformed her expression.

"Dr. Mercer called ten minutes ago, sir," she answered, her voice trembling slightly with emotion.

"Leo took his first unsupported steps down the hallway this morning."

"The new neurological specialists you provided have made an incredible difference."

"He is going to make a full recovery, Hannah," I said firmly.

"Your family's medical expenses are permanently covered under the Moretti foundation charter."

Tears welled up in Hannah’s eyes, but this time they were tears of pure, unadulterated joy.

"I will never be able to repay this debt to you, Mr. Moretti," she whispered, her voice thick with gratitude.

"You already have, Hannah," I replied, standing up and buttoning my suit jacket.

"By reminding me that true loyalty cannot be bought with diamonds or red silk dresses."

"It is forged in adversity and tested by fire."

I walked over to the window, looking out over the manicured lawns where the gardeners were tending to the white orchids.

The syndicate was secure.

My sister was home.

The traitors were locked away in federal custody.

And the house was guarded by people who understood the true value of honor.

I turned back toward my desk, ready to face whatever new challenges the day might bring.

The storm had finally cleared, leaving behind a kingdom built to last.
