Chapter 5 - Homeless and Hopeless

The heavy oak doors of the Vance mansion slammed shut behind Elena. True to Raymond’s cold promise, she was thrown out onto the rain-slicked streets of the city with nothing but the silk blouse and skirt she was wearing. No purse, no diamond rings, and no dignity.

For weeks, Elena tasted the bitter reality of rock bottom. She stayed in a cramped, dingy motel on the outskirts of town, surviving on what little cash she had hidden in her coat pocket. The glitz and glamour of her high-society life had vanished like smoke.

Yet, as the days bled into weeks, the initial fury and humiliation inside her began to mutate. Sitting in the dark, staring at the peeling wallpaper, she didn't just feel anger—she felt a profound, hollow ache. For the first time, she realized she hadn't just lost Raymond’s massive fortune; she had lost the only man who had ever looked at her with genuine devotion. She had destroyed the only real home she ever had.
