Chapter 8 - The Price of Healing

Raymond looked into her eyes, searching for the deception that had blinded him for years. But he found none. There was only raw, bleeding regret. The tension that had tightened his chest for months finally began to loosen. He didn't love her anymore—the trust was too broken for that—but the hatred in his heart dissolved into pity.

He pulled a document out of his coat, along with a small key.

"The divorce is final," Raymond said quietly. "The prenup stands. You get none of the Vance estate."

Elena nodded, accepting her fate. But Raymond wasn't finished.

"However... I won't let the woman my daughter once called 'Mommy' starve on the streets. This is the deed to a small apartment in the countryside, and a modest monthly stipend. It is not a reward. It is a chance for you to disappear, fix your soul, and become a human being again."

Elena stared at the key in his hand. Fresh tears spilled over her cheeks, but this time, they weren't tears of defeat—they were tears of overwhelming gratitude. She didn't touch his hand, knowing she had lost that right forever. She gently took the key and the paper.

"Thank you, Raymond. Tell Lily... tell her I am so sorry."

Raymond gave a single, solemn nod. He turned around and walked away, his posture upright, stepping forward into a brighter future with his daughter. Elena watched his retreating figure until he disappeared into the city fog.
