Chapter 14 - The Trap is Set for the Corporate Serpent

The fifty-fifth floor executive suite felt like a pressure cooker on the verge of catastrophic explosion as Adrian stared down at the blinking red light of the flash drive on his desk.

Jonathan Gable—the man who had worked loyally by his side for fifteen years, the man who had questioned his stability in the boardroom just an hour prior—was the internal traitor.

He had sold out the family empire to Marcus Vance for a fistful of silver and empty promises of higher corporate titles in the newly restructured hostile regime.

"Print out the complete digital audit logs, the keystroke trackers, and the wire transfer receipts linked to Jonathan’s workstation," Adrian commanded, his voice absolute and unyielding.

"Yes, Mr. Vance. I've already routed copies to our external legal counsel and the federal cyber-crimes division," Elena replied professionally, nodding with fierce loyalty.

"Good. Now, we play his game. Let Jonathan think his betrayal went completely undetected until the absolute worst possible moment for him," Adrian muttered, his eyes narrowing into cold slits.

Meanwhile, down on the forty-second floor in the plush, glass-walled office of the Chief Financial Officer, Jonathan Gable was nervously pacing back and forth across the expensive wool carpet.

His phone buzzed violently against his thigh, displaying an encrypted text message from an unknown international number originating in Zurich.

“Is the preliminary injunction holding? Has Adrian cracked yet?”

Jonathan quickly tapped out a reply with trembling, sweaty fingers, his heart hammering wildly against his ribs out of sheer corporate terror and greed.

“The board is terrified. Marcus, if you file the federal audit papers this afternoon, Adrian won't have enough liquidity to fight back on two fronts.”

Within seconds, a smug, reassuring response lit up his phone screen: “Good. Meet me at the private penthouse suite of the Grand Continental Hotel at midnight. We will celebrate the final victory.”

Jonathan smiled greedily, tucking his phone back into his pocket as he looked out the massive floor-to-ceiling window at the sprawling downtown skyline below.

He truly believed he had backed the winning horse, completely ignorant of the fact that the trap had already snapped shut around his ankles the moment he plugged that thumb drive into the system.

Upstairs on the fifty-fifth floor, Adrian was already making a secure, encrypted phone call to his most trusted ally outside the corporate world—the lead detective of the city’s federal white-collar crime unit.

"Detective Vance? No relation to the corporate vultures," Adrian spoke smoothly into the receiver, a dark amusement dancing in his voice.

"I have a corporate rat ready to be harvested on federal wire fraud and treason charges, and I want you and your team waiting in the hotel lobby at midnight."

"Consider it done, Mr. Vance. We've been tracking Marcus’s shell corporations for months; we just needed your authorized signature to make the arrests stick permanently," the detective replied crisply.

Adrian hung up the phone, leaning back in his executive leather chair as he stared up at the digital clock on the wall ticking steadily toward midnight.

Vanessa was already locked away in a federal holding facility, stripped of her wealth, her social standing, and her freedom.

Now, it was time to systematically dismantle Marcus Vance and his traitorous corporate accomplices piece by piece, ensuring that no one would ever dare threaten his family or his daughter again.

He reached over and clicked open a secondary browser tab on his monitor, pulling up the live security feed of the grand mansion where little Mia was currently resting safely under armed guard.

On screen, he could see his brave little daughter sitting at her mahogany desk, practicing her violin scales with quiet, unbroken determination under the warm glow of her desk lamp.

The jagged stubble on the right side of her head was clearly visible in the high-definition frame, a permanent reminder of the cruelty she had suffered, and an eternal symbol of her absolute triumph.

Adrian smiled softly, whispering a silent vow to the glowing screen before him: “Sleep well, my brave little star. Daddy is going to make sure the world belongs to you.”
