Chapter 15 - Midnight at the Grand Continental and the Fall of the House of Marcus

The midnight air outside the Grand Continental Hotel was biting and cold, carrying the sharp scent of an impending winter storm across the glittering towers of the downtown financial district.

Inside the opulent, gold-plated private penthouse suite on the top floor, Marcus Vance swirled a glass of vintage scotch, staring out at the panoramic view of the city lights below.

He felt invincible.

The preliminary injunctions had been officially filed with the federal court system, the board of directors was completely fractured, and Adrian Vance was supposedly cornered in his fifty-fifth-floor office.

A soft knock echoed at the heavy double doors of the penthouse suite, snapping Marcus out of his arrogant daydream with a pleased, predatory smirk.

"Right on time, Jonathan," Marcus purred softly, walking across the expensive Persian rug to pull open the heavy oak doors and welcome his traitorous corporate accomplice inside.

The doors swung wide open—not revealing Jonathan Gable trembling with nervous excitement, but rather a towering wall of federal law enforcement officers in tactical gear.

Before Marcus could even draw a breath to scream or reach for his phone, heavy steel handcuffs were slammed violently around his wrists, pinning his arms tightly behind his back.

"Marcus Vance, you are under federal arrest for corporate espionage, wire fraud, historical document forgery, and international extortion," the lead detective barked authoritatively.

Marcus’s face went entirely pale, his eyes bulging with sheer, unadulterated terror as he was violently shoved hard against the wood-paneled wall of the hallway.

"This is a mistake! You can't touch me! I am the rightful heir to the Vance empire!" Marcus shrieked hysterically, thrashing uselessly against the iron grip of the tactical officers.

"Your empire just collapsed, cousin," a cold, smooth voice echoed from the elevator foyer behind the tactical squad.

Adrian Vance stepped out of the private elevator, his tall, imposing frame radiating an aura of absolute, terrifying power as he looked down at his disgraced relative with utter contempt.

"You thought you could use Vanessa, you thought you could hack my servers, and you thought you could steal my daughter’s inheritance," Adrian said, his voice dangerously low.

"You forgot one fundamental rule of the Vance family, Marcus: we don't just protect our crown—we bury anyone who tries to touch it."

Behind Adrian, a second team of federal agents stepped out of the service elevator, dragging a screaming, pale-faced Jonathan Gable in handcuffs along with them.

"Adrian! Please! It was a misunderstanding! Marcus forced me to do it, I swear!" Jonathan wailed shamelessly, tears streaming down his face as he begged for mercy.

"Save it for the federal judge, Jonathan. Your signature is stamped across every single wire transfer receipt," Adrian dismissed coldly without even glancing in the traitor's direction.

The officers hauled Marcus and Jonathan down the hallway toward the service elevators, their desperate screams echoing off the gold-plated walls until they faded into total silence.

Adrian stood alone in the grand penthouse doorway, looking out at the glittering expanse of the city skyline as a profound, heavy weight finally lifted entirely from his shoulders.

The war was over.

The corporate serpents had been purged, the traitors were behind bars, and the legacy of his family was completely secure for generations to come.

He pulled his phone from his pocket, dialing the direct line to the mansion with a warm, genuine smile breaking across his tired face.

"Daddy?" Mia’s sweet, sleepy voice answered on the very first ring, sounding entirely peaceful and unafraid.

"It’s over, sweetheart. The bad men are gone, and they're never coming back," Adrian said softly, his voice thick with uncontainable emotion.

"Can you come home now, Daddy? I saved a slice of chocolate cake just for you," Mia whispered happily through the phone line.

"I'm on my way home, my brave little star. I'll be there in twenty minutes."

Adrian hung up the phone, slipped it back into his pocket, and walked back into the private elevator, letting the doors close smoothly behind him as he rode down toward his true kingdom.
