Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Melody and the Empire of Vale

Three months later, the grand concert hall of the Chicago Symphony Center was sold out three weeks in advance.
The marquee outside shone brightly in the crisp winter air, displaying a single, powerful name that made the local arts critics sit up and take notice: Elena Moretti, in her triumphant American Debut.
Backstage, in the private green room lined with floral arrangements and velvet drapes, Elena stood before the illuminated mirror, adjusting the emerald-green silk gown that Adrien had gifted her permanently after that fateful night in Lake Forest.
Her dark hair was styled in elegant, sweeping waves, and resting gently against her collar was her grandmother’s silver cross.
The dressing room door swung open without a knock.
Adrien Vale walked in, impeccably dressed in a tailored midnight-blue tuxedo, holding a single, flawless white rose.
He didn't say a word.
He simply walked up behind her, gently placing the white rose on the vanity table before wrapping his strong arms around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest.
“The auditorium is packed,” Adrien murmured softly against her ear, his breath warm and familiar.
“Victor Bellini is sitting in the front row with three different hotel investors from Zurich. And the federal prosecutor who handled the Milan extraditions is three seats down.”
Elena smiled, leaning back against his solid frame, her hands resting over his wrists.
“Are they here to listen to the music, or are you just making sure nobody tries to serve you another subpoena?” she teased lightly.
Adrien’s arms tightened around her, his lips brushing the side of her neck.
“They’re here because my resident concertmaster is the finest violinist in North America,” he whispered, his voice dropping into that low, possessive register that sent a thrill straight down her spine.
“And because anyone who tries to interrupt this concert will have to answer to me.”
A three-minute bell chimed softly through the backstage intercom system, signaling that it was time to take the stage.
Elena turned in his arms, looking up into his dark, unwavering eyes with a profound, unshakeable sense of peace and power.
She reached out, picked up her dark wood violin case from the velvet chair, and popped the brass latches.
She lifted the instrument, tucked it beneath her chin, and drew the bow across the strings for a single, perfect trial note that resonated through the green room like a bell of absolute triumph.
“Wish me luck,” she said softly.
Adrien smiled—a real, unfiltered smile that transformed his harsh, syndicate-boss features into something entirely breathtaking.
“You don't need luck, Elena,” he said, opening the dressing room door for her.
“You own the stage. Now go play.”
May you like
And as Elena Moretti walked out into the blinding white brilliance of the concert hall spotlights, ready to unleash a symphony that would echo across the underworld and high society alike, she knew she wasn't hiding anymore.
She had found her stage.
